My assumption is 14' - 18'000 in total over a live span of 4-6 years. (including a Spider model yet to come). I looked at the 360 coupé/spider numbers and calculated some 10 to 30% production increase world wide (in comparison to 1999-2004 total production figures). Of course, the overall increase in production worldwide is a guess depending on the worldwide economy and more than unsure. On the other hand Ferrari in the past has prooved to be able to adapt to circimstances well. Having created an absolute masterpiece technically and visually with the 458 Italia, they will gain new customers world wide for this wonderful model...probably even Aston and Porsche clients. I personally believe that the 458 Italia is very competitive priced (to what it is and what it is able to). This may be a "down" for cars like the California, but overall for Ferrari a strong "up".

Only negative: These production numbers are a sure invitation for a strong long term depreciation of $ invested. (like the 360,430 etc.) Just my 2cents.

I'll bet we're within five years of age, Jimmy!!

Per production, and this is anecdotal, I'd say they re going pretty hard with production, hoping the economy is more and more solid as production goes forward and the North American market heats up...

I'm guessing it would be at least 15,000, possibly closer to 20,000.

I am nowhere near as analytical as 212Export, but if I am not wrong, the number of new F-cars sale per year in Japan is in the low, three digit figures. Even tho the Japan market is not compararble to the size of US or Europe and with the sour economy here, the production figures of modern models is quite unbelievable. That certainly is a lot of F-cars per model per year. I suppose the problem is my mothballed brain nerons that I seemed to have left behind somewhere in the past.
As a simple comparison purpose, Dino 246 GT Tipo L were made between 1969 till 1970 for a total of 357 Tipo L model (the rest were Tipo M and E models and GTS), ranging from 00400 ~ 01116. My Dino is a 1969 #00508. Only 81 model L were made in the year of 1969. Extrapolating, my car is number 54th model in production ! w/ smiles Jimmy

Tempora mutantur, nos et mutamur in illis, Jimmy. Ferrari is trying to get its production slowly up to 10,000 a year. With the California now taking a serious slice of those, it still means that there will be around 3,000 458's produced annually, minimum. With a life span of 5 years you're looking at 15,000 produced. Depending on the ramp-up (at the moment close to 7,000 per year), it might be more.

I agree with 212export that this car will have serious depreciation. All V8 models do once they start looking a bit old. So for the next 5 - 6 years, until the next model is well established, you should have happy motoring, and then the hammer comes. Which, if you think about it, is still seriously good value for money compared to its competitors.

Thank you for your kind words, Rolf. Sorry to divert from the original topic.
As for the new 458, I am sure in due time the latest 458 would be showing up here in the streets of Tokyo. Much of the crowd here seems to like the newest model, regardless of the makes.

I am headed over to Atlanta within the next two weeks to finalize the deal. Not sure how I feel about the whole affair, vis-a-vis economic uncertainty, so I really have to think it through.

They also would like me to drive an FF and provide feedback to the factory. Should be a good test of my objectivity! lol

I heard this weekend that my 458 has an April build slot. Time to get excited! They could be on the production line together, Colonel.

Onno- I saw all the wild things you are doing with your 458. Should be a stunner. Were you able to get the CF shields approved?
