Lowest Maintenance Mondials?

Hi, I will be purchasing a Mondial soon, and am wondering which years I should consider and which ones I should avoid.

I have heard that the QV can have lots of maintenance issues, especially electrical ones.

Some people say the 3.2 ('86 to '88?) has the lowest maintenance costs

Others say that the Mondial t has the lowest maintenance costs.

I imagine it varies tremendously from vehicle to vehicle and how well they have been kept up, but all things being equal I am wondering where my best bet is.

I have heard that with the 1988 model the engine did not have to be removed to replace the belts, resulting in belt changes costing half as much as other models. This is true and are there other years where this was also the case?

Is the clutchless Valeo ('92 and '93) a maintenance nightmare?

Is a 1990 or a 1991 better than a 1989 since 1989 was the first year the Mondial t was introduced?

David, You best bets are a late 3.2 (87 or 88) or a late t (92 or 93). I would stay away from the Valeo cars as it will be near impossible to find anyone who has experience fixing them. Ferrari has a long history of making small improvements to a car throughout the production run. In general a late car will be more relaible than an early car.

Belt changes in all Mondials are engine-in.
Some cars have no electrical issues.
Valeo cars would be cool, but like Boxer said: will be repair nightmares due strictly to lack of mechanics (even dealerships) since so few were ever made. However, I have read that the system is quite reliable, even considering that it is French!
Overall, I love the Mondials, and I think you will enjoy owning one. I wish I could have kept mine.
