to find supplier for shocks. also have some acceleration questions. please post

Bruno have you tried G.T. Car Parts, 623-780-2200 for the shocks? That trans. is a 400 turbo G.M. trans. . Very durable trans with a good track record. Other then the car being slow on take off, which they all are, what are you asking? It is definetly a top end luxury cruiser and geared as such.

It seems from a dead stop and you floor it the car will not pull .At least I think it is slower than it should be. There is nothing at all wrong with the engine and trans. 100% solid with good recent service. I am wondering if maybe they set the timing off a little to pass emissions and that is what is going on. Or thats the way it is. I think I am going to sell the car. Not what I expected.

Bruno, Buddy I hate to tell you this but the ones I have driven are the same way. It seems like you are taking off in second gear. Now I don't know if something else has occurred recently since you drove it last but I do know that they are very slow on take off until as you say 35 to 40 mph.

Yes my 0-60 is 7.2 seconds and AFC member tested his ant posted results of 7.01 .I had 2 passengers at 350.lbs in mine. It flies on the other end. Hard to beleive Ferrari would have made it this way. I know when I cruise at 60mph you dont even know your moving.Great luxury coupe. Because of depressed pricing and car has original paint,interior etc. I am thinking about using it as everyday car. Why not. They can be had for 25k any day of the week. Where you getting that bang for buck at? Also are you sure about 308 oil amount? When hot and off within 2 minuters i find it takes 9!/2 quarts with filter to reach max. on dipstick. Are you maybe stopping in middle?I like max because I use a quart every 1200 miles.

Bruno, I have been using 8 1/4 qts for over 2 yrs now. And when I check it it is just under the max toward 1/2 way. Too much oil can force it into the vent pipe and into the airbox. I believe it is better to run under max. then on or over. Also I like the 400. It is intended to be a luxury passenger vehicle. I guess the ones who wanted a faster car on take off ordered the optional manual gear box. What color is it? JMO

Yeah Bruno! We all want to see it!

BTW - I recently changed the oil and filter in my 308 and it took 9 full qts. I haven't had any leaks but after some of the posts saying 9 was too much, I went out and checked it yesterday. Started it up, backed it out of the garage, let it idle for a few minutes, shut it down and checked the oil. The level was halfway between min and max. 9 qts it is (on mine anyway). I'm gonna drive the car today so I will double check it with the engine hot.

Pete, Are you letting it get to operating temp? Also how long has it been since your last oil, filter change? You may have used some by now. Just a thought.

No, I am not letting it get to operating temp. I am checking it cold. I should check it warm but I keep forgetting to. I check it before I drive the car not after (the proactive-not-reactive instinct.). I drove the car today and did not check the oil with the engine warm like I said I would. I changed the oil and filter on 9 Aug. and have put 380 miles on the car since. I have not noted any oil consumption since I have owned the car, nor have I noted any leaks anywhere. I do run the engine to let it fill up the oil filter and oil cooler before I check it and it is halfway between min and max. I don't believe I am over full but I will try and remember to check it warm tomorrow (I will be taking the car for a ride tomorrow!). I'll keep you posted and I thank you for your concern!!!!!!!!!!

Pete, The only reason I mention that is that oil flows faster when it is normal operating temps. I have always used 8 1/4 to 8 1/2 qts when changing oil and filter. The level stays just under max closer to half way between max. and min.. Regards

Pete, I urge you to check that oil warm, a minute or two after shutdown (before the rest drains out from the cooler and filter). In this state, you are measuring what's in the sump only and it should be at the max line (per the book). When I check mine cold (for example the next day, or before the drive) its at least a 1/2" ABOVE the max line. If you are reading halfway WHEN ITS COLD, you are too low.

This won't harm the engine during mild driving/cruising with a low level like that, but any slight "tossing" of the car in the corners and that low level of oil will drain-out from under the pick-up and she'll run dry...

Well I'm back. Here are some 400 pics. I also found the shocks. Turns out the part number on the old shocks are good if you drop the letter out of it. Up until 1982 koni had a letter code for destination. So now They are on the way for $325.00 for the pair. I wonder how many people just stopped at being told unavailable by other F car people and koni dealers. I called and talked to an application engineer and got the scoop.
