Default Shout out to East Coast Chimps

SF all my East Coast Bubbas. I received an invite from FNA Southwest Chapter to attend C&C today in Irvine, CA. Ferrari was their featured marque so we got front row parking. About 50-60 Ferrari's showed up. In total, there were about 400 cars, and the lot had filled by 6:00am and still dark and foggy. I've enclosed a few photos from my iPhone (hence the poor quality).

My personal favoraite was the blue 212 Inter. I think it was the 100 pt Pebble Beach car. Absolutely incredible, its the most beautiful car I've ever seen. I'm in love and now have a new dream car.

Equally incedible, of all the cars there, mine was the only 360 Spider. How proud was I !!!

That's awesome. Who could miss Katie's when you get a turn out like that on the left coast.

Everything you have heard is true.

Just as impressive was the fact that all but four of the Ferrari's were driven to the event by their owners!

Default nice show!

There were more outstanding Ferraris there then at the FCA nationals in Virginia a few years back. That is very cool!

Your iPhone didn't do a bad job of taking photos either. Thanks for sharing.

BTW - I misspoke. The blue car is not a 212 Inter but a 250 Europa. If my research is correct, there were 28 of them? And no two seem to be alike. Beyond words, that car brought tears to my eyes.

Another note, you guys are the ones on the "correct" coast - Most of the OC owners were not very friendly or welcoming. They seemed to be a closed clique. Unlike you Chimps! (Ed, Al, and I are living proof you'll let anyone in....)

Al, I'll be home for the Veteran's Day weekend. If the weather holds, I'll be up for C&C, City Dock, a drive, a cigar, and some good whiskey. Unfortunately, the Spider won't be back in DC until January. See you then!

I've heard this about some of the old guard tifosi purists.... anything after 1969 is a glorified Fiat...... if it doesn't have 12 cylinders its not a real ferrari... blah blah blah.... Fortunately the cars are unique and interesting... even if their owners aren't.

I've run into a couple of these; a quick "oh, really; because my Ferrari has only 4 cylinders and won a grand prix and Sebring . . . " somtimes helps re-orient their view .. . . I am also surprised/shocked at how little some of these guys actually know about their cars.

A few of the Irvine owners were in a discussion of incredible engine minutia: model, serial number, and date their engine was made....

that's good to hear; they somehow got a hold of the Assembly Data Sheets; the engine sheet is dated, and if your numero interno matches the one on the ADS, you know roughly what day your engine was born.

There was a time when you could get the ADS's from the Factory - my dad's first factory visit where he came away w/ such papers was in 1961 - now you pay princely sums to Classiche to get them. You could still get them if you knoew someone on the inside until the late 80s; then they pretty much locked the vault doors because the replica squads were using them to make fakes. Before the internet could smoke these things out in a matter of hours/minutes, there were a lot of swindles.

Thinking of dad's '61 factory viist reminds me that I need him to write up the story - he wandered away from his tour group and ended up in the race shop - the sharknose nose sections hanging on racks on the wall. Someone finally noticed him, and when they figured out he didn't speak italian . . . a BRM spy!!

Default East, but a Far East Chimp

Thanx for posting those great pics, David. I do not know if I am good enough to be called a Chimp, one from the Far East. Oh well, east is east, only that it is the other side of the globe. Sorry to hear that the crowd was not very congenial. w/ smiles Jimmy

You're right Jimmy, east IS east. Even though you're closer to me going west, you're an East Coast Chimp in my book!

Jimmy, this east coast chimp is heading further east, but heading west to be further east. Unfortunately, I already booked my flight and stopping in tokyo on my way to singapore and also stopping in tokyo on the way back. Are you or will you be in Tokyo the weekend of the 14th?
