Default Rockville Antique Car Show Next Weekend

Unfortunately i will miss it as i will be racing in annapolis, but it is a great show that i rarely miss. I highly recommend it and the weather is usually very nice. As a bonus, i believe the admiral will be showing the little blue car if you haven't seen it or want to see it again.

Ed is right, the little blue car will be there as the weather forecast does not call for rain at the moment. The first picture is in front of the mansion after the car won the People's Choice Award last year. The second shot is what I like best at car shows and that is preaching the gospel of early Ferrari history. Note the copy of Castellotti's helmet on the tire cover. You can also see the hammer marks of Scaglietti's craftsmen on the underside of the hood.

Come on by, stop and look and ask questions. I know I have had a good car show day when my voice is gone at the end of the day.

Best regards,

We received the instructions from the show director's today re: trailer parking, etc. The special class this year will be race cars. There will be 34 cars in that class, from 1912 to 2010. There are expected to be 500 cars on the field. Awesome regional show.

This is a great, great show...excellent turnout of all vintage machinery...and lots of modern exotics also.

I am trying to fit this into a messy weekend schedule myself.

They want me to bring up the '66 GT350 racecar but my sister has been diagnosed with lung cancer so my head is too messed up right now to commit to anything. Probably driving to Long Island today to spend a couple days with her. If there is good news from the docs by Wed I might come home and try to bring the car up?

For those of you who are fans of the little blue car, it will not be collecting People's Choice votes this Saturday. It will be on the field but since it won last year it is not eligible this year. I guess that means you will have to vote for your "second best" choice.

It also looks like the weather will be cooperating which will be a nice change.

Stop by and say hi! HelenAnn, Bryan and I will be there at one time or another throughout the day.

Best regards,

Robert

The weather turned out to be a beautiful fall day and I had a great time answering dozens of questions about the early history of the little blue car.

I am certain others may post more comprehensive views because there were many interesting cars there.

Best regards,

Default nice show!

What a bunch of nice cars to see. That Ferrari Indy car was awesome. What is the specific nomenclature and year for that car? As always, a pleasure to see Team Phillips and the little blue car.

Great shots, Ken! It was good seeing everyone!

As for the Ferrari 375- In Formula 1, it was winning all the races (much like Vettel's RBR is today) and was more powerful than the other Formula 1 cars at that time, so the FIA decided it was "out". Luigi Chinetti convinced Enzo Ferrari to develop the car further with a stronger longer chassis and represent it at the 1952 Indy 500. There were four cars: 1 works and 3 customers, No: 1 'Ferrari Special' for his works driver Alberto Ascari, No: 2 Grant Piston Ring Special (which was raced) for drivers Jonnie Parsons (who later took more money to drive for another sponsor) and Danny Oakes, No: 3 'Kennedy Tank Special' for driver Johnny Mauro, and No: 4 'Mobil Special' for driver Bobby Ball. At the show, it wasn't specified as to which of the four cars this was. What a beauty, too!

If I read the little sign in front of the car right, this was Alberto Ascari's car. It said only one of four 375's qualified for Indy, and was running in eighth place when it had a rear wheel problem and was out. It wasn't clear which of the four cars this was. My guess is the No. 1 car. Of interest it said it was 1700 pounds and had 380 hp. Pretty impressive for 1952.

Yes, you're right BST1 - The program has a photo of Ascari in the car when it was numbered 12. Also featured, is a nice write-up on the Admiral's little blue car. I stayed until after 4 pm with Bill Ebert, Arjun, Pantera1889, and Funrari to watch most of the race cars leave. What a sight and sound!
