Believe it or not, expired tags, irrespective of the state, is a crime in DC and subjects the driver

to jail:

In all my time there, I've found it hard to get the atention of an officer. They seem to be one of two extremes: lazy donuts eaters, or busy doing "real" crime fighting.

They probably did that just enough times to make the news. On thing DC seem to be really good at is "sending a message".

you are not gonna believe this but i just got back from the md dmv. i had one of my vans running around dc today on an expired tag. waited till the last minute to renew (me!?), was done 9/30 but got hung up with an old speed camera ticket he didn't tell me about. After seeing this post this morning i got paranoid that the kid was gonna go to jail so i blew 3 hrs clearing it up today(don't ask). have sticker in hand.........

Wet: Wouldn't the ticket go to your business? Or is the kid a private contractor?

I don't know if anyone has noticed the twin cameras mounted on the trunks of some of the Mont Co and Park Police cars pointed out at angles? They are tag readers, as the cops drive around these cameras are looking out both sides of the cruiser logging tag numbers and alerting the officer driving if the tags are expired or any warrents etc in real time.

Many police programs have gone from protect and serve - to fine & dine.

Non moving violations - I have seen many people who have pulled over and caused traffic jams resulting in accidents.

Roads are no longer made for cops to hand out moronic tickets.

i remember the late 70's when they would pull you over and if you were drunk they would tell you to go home!

at worst they would tell you to park it and get a ride.
