Hey Guys, As some of you know, I work for Discovery Communications. We are launching our automotive channel this Tuesday up in NY with a splashing party. Wayne Corini, Chip Foose and Ryan from West Coast Customs will be in attendance. Here comes the interesting part. Ever since I first heard the car channel concept 4 years ago, I immediately struck upon the idea that we should have a physical car show at Discovery Headquarters on the launch date. I finally got the go ahead 2 weeks ago to accomplish this. So, on Wednesday the 5th, from 1 to 3, I am hosting a very select car show. My goal is to show the Velocity staff the variety and quality of cars in the Washington DC area. I have invited specific cars from all genres to represent. I will have some significant cars on display as the following photos will demonstrate. We are not advertising the event in that it is an internal happening. However, it is occurring in a very public place so come check it out, if you have the time. Of course the star of the show will be.... Last edited by kvisser; 10-01-2011 at 01:29 PM. |

However, even realising that Ed and Luigi are a huge draw, I decided that I had to add additional cars to the mix. Therefore, I invited a couple extras like... |

I'm real excited to see Rod's 63 2400 hp Corvette. This is the world fastest street car having done a 6.75/210mph run after a 30 mile cruise. This was on pump gas and street tires. Corvette is labeled fastest car on planet - YouTube Rod Saboury 6.75 @ 209 Martin Michigan 9/12/09 - YouTube |

Thanks, Al. Chuck is bringing a gorgeous Blue 275 and David Carte is bringing the 37 Talbot and the 54 Maserati. If you haven't seen either of these cars in person, it will be worth the trip. And just to be clear, I've put together a show of cars and vintage cycles to celebrate the launch of the Velocity channel. I came up with the idea 4 years ago when I first heard of the possibility of a "car" channel. I was then given 2 weeks to pull it all together so its been a bit of a mad rush. We will be doing some filming but this is not for a specific broadcast. My intentions was to show to the Velocity folks the depth and variety of cars and bikes that we have in the greater DC area. As we all know, there are some insane vehicles squirreled away in garages all around here. I feel lucky in that people are willing to bring their prescious vehicles down to Silver Spring on such short notice and in the middle of the work week. I hope to see any of you on Wednesday. regards ken |

If you want to see a rather large gathering of cars for some "B roll" film footage, look at the veterans appreciation day car show thread....400+ cars on display (albeit mostly Detroit iron) but at least the show is local. Right now, looks like Barry and I will show up w/some Italian muscle at that show. All the best Ken and much deserved kudos again. Wayne Carini is a blast to watch on Chasing Classic Cars. 360 & TR Cars & Coffee at CITY DOCK ANNAPOLIS 9am-noon Every Sunday F-CHAT Exile now living the Ferrari Life. |

Hey Guys, I couldn't have asked for a better day weather wise and car guys wise. Its really a tribute to the quality of the car guys across all genres that my show was quite successful. As I mentioned in my original post here at Flife inviting everyone to come check this out, this was not a judged show, more, it was a showcase for the passion, creativity and ingenuity of the DC Metropolitan car community. I wanted to show the staff of Velocity the resources that we have available in this area. And if you came, you were guaranteed to see several cars you had never seen before. I had originally told the Velocity and Events team we were looking at around 20 cars. I had one of the Montgomery cops we had on scene come up to me "you know, even though I graduated from the MCP School system, this is more then 20 cars..." I had a bit of mission creep. From a Pebble Beach award winning 37 Talbot Logo to the world's fastest street car - a 2400 hp 63 Vette. From a one of four in the world 54 Maserati AG6 to a tube chassied mid engine 48 pickup truck. I really wanted to cover as many genres of vehicles possible and I think we achieved that goal. What was also fantastic was the teamwork and camaraderie of our hobby. I had guys jump in to get the hold harmless agreements signed (legal dept and insurance guys mandated I do that). I had help with parking the cars. My good friend Dave ran my shuttle service to the trailer parking 2 miles off site. The Discovery Global Events staff were on the sidelines wondering if there was anything for them to do. It all went very smoothly. From the Velocity standpoint, this was a great event as well. It captured the imagination of the entire building, raising the stature of the new channel. Its one thing to see a bunch of posters heralding the creation of a new network. Its a totally different scenario to see, touch, smell and hear a 72 El Camino with a blower on top and 4 inch straight pipes spilling out the back! I walked the SVP of our international division all around so he and his staff could get a taste of the craftsmanship that was on display. And then our talent, Ryan, from West Coast Customs came out and got to ride on a 41 Willys mini cart. That put a big smile on his face. I know he left understanding that we have some skills on the East Coast. So my thanks and gratitude goes out to all my car friends that came by to make this a very successful event. I hope that I get a chance to do this again. As funny as this might seem but I didn't get a chance to photograph the entire field. If anyone has photos, please share them. regards ken |

Check out the ingenuity of this car and its owner. Basically, we are looking at a GT-40 with a 48 pickup truck body bolted on top. I asked the owner why he built it. Being 6 foot 7, "I wanted a sports car I fit in." So he designed a tube chassis with a 350 stroked out to 427, connected to a ZF 5 speed, mid engine style. The craftsmenship is outstanding and it is such a sleeper. I have to get a ride in this thing! regards ken |
