Default Toll booths coming to I-95 in VA

Funny thing, how have they been paying for all of these alleged expenses over how many decades without a toll? Now it is necessary due to employees of the State of VA mismanaging and negligently overspending our money and we have to bail them out for their incompetence?

honestly, I'm surprised 95 doesn't have tolls in every state. no real way around it if you're driving from NE to FL.

still, toll roads SUCK!

Once they get one in it becomes a "look at me revenue stream". Not good!

In Florida they have a Sun Pass - very likely if you do some digging you will see that whomever gets the pass contract that reads the pass and allows drive thru at full speed it will tether to some political figure ... let alone all the other highway contractors who benefit from the work.

So you raise a toll to collect - does anyone ever look at the cost of installation?

Spend money to create a revenue stream - sounds good.

It's the dirty hands and inefficiencies of Gov't that makes every like project - fail

Another sign of enlarging Gov't to pay for Gov't

God NO! what a waste of time, money, and fuel to have to stop at the bottle neck. 95 is bad already. why cant they just raise sales taxes to pay for roads. If you dont buy, you dont pay, sounds fair!

most new roads will be toll roads and any existing ones that can be turned into toll roads will be. the rights are and will be sold to large international corporations.

like for example the dulles toll road operated by "Dulles Greenway" owned by an Australian company, Macquarie Atlas Roads

the new nova hot lanes are owned by Fluor Corporation and Transurban

haven't looked up the new toll on 95 although fluor is an american co. transurban is-you guessed it-australian.

it is a worldwide phenomenon that all utilities, roads and resources are being sold to large international corporations for pennies. At least in the us so far, it's just our politicians selling us out. in all the third world and some first world (greece, ireland, italy, ect) they are being forced to sell these valuable public assets to appease the international bankers through the IMF and world bank.

did you know some big cities are selling their meters? communities where these meters are located can't close their roads for street festivals without paying an enormous fee to the companies. Corporate control of our roads and utilities brings with it control issues that go way beyond what is being charged to use them and who gets the money.

the ICC, to it's credit so far, is not owned by a international corp. But it still is a toll road.

ALL ROADS SHOULD BE OWNED AND OPERATED BY THE PEOPLE.

Sold or leased?

Do some digging ... there is usually a bond and some sort of revenue sharing.

The State usually screws the local municipality - even worse the amount of accidents and deaths caused by these tax blockades.

At the end of the trail there area a few fat cats making tons off a cluster f*ck.

leased for 50 years is better than sold. as you know, when you lease something, you "own" it for the term. Controlling things can be much better, and cheaper, than owning them.

in a related story, here is the new thing- buying up all the verdant farmland. Specially in africa. I started hearing about this 5 years ago. Land, water, roads, electric. it's all being vacuumed up and consolidated around the world. And with your money! that's the amazing part.

It comes down to language of the deal. American politicians have no right to sell our land nor do they have a right to sell its enrichments.

It's like air rights or mineral rights or whatever increases the value of something formed by an external factor.

I hate / despise any Gov't arm taking control of what they have no right to.

There is a lot more to this than meets the eye - hopefully the Supreme Court can rule on this procedure of enrichment.

Alaska rakes in BIG money for their oil and sharing of revenue - one thing about Mrs Palin is she knew not to sell what she and Alaska could milk forever.

I refuse to use the new Interconnector Road in MD because of the tolls. I'd rather help clog up the DC Beltway.

I turned in my 6 EZ pass transponders when the state started charging me $6.00 per month even if they aren't used . I live by the principle that I will pay for services or goods, but not for a privilege that only benefits the govt money grabbers.

Now, the one or two times I cross the Bay Bridge each year, I help clog the traffic at the toll booth.

F'em.
