Default 2011 C & C: Great Falls, VA - Katie's

Nice weather Saturday morning, 1/1/11 (well, for January...). My wife Debbie and I showed up at Katie's just after 8AM. What I'd call a small but enthusiastic group. Even with the small number of cars, the amazing record stands - there were still cars (three, in fact) that we had never seen at Katie's before.

The early attendees tended toward British and red.
The Italians were represented: a Siata Daina (1950 or '51 model) local barn find.
Red 'Shelby-ized' Mustang.

Wow that's quite a find! Would love to see it restored. Thanks for the photos Bob.

It wasn't snowing when I left the house this morning, but started snowing steadily as I drove to Great Falls. Still, since Bobert showed up with his SS454 truck, we continued our unbroken string of at least one interesting vehicle none of us had seen, each week. Bob M. showed up in his Land Rover, so we did have a "3-Bob Cars & Coffee".

Afterwards, I drove by VW of America HQ in Herndon, since I heard they had a Veyron Super Sport on display, along with the Audi LeMans R8 Diesel. Both cars are very cool - sorry for the poor-quality pictures; the lobby isn't open on weekends, and I took the pictures through two panes of glass. I heard the Veyron was leaving soon, or I'd try to go by during the week, when the building is open.

I'm disappointed Ed....a Veyron and no girls? Seems a bit uncharacteristic.

Bryan:

Today was nothing. Back in the 80's, I had a '72 Europa Twincam as my daily driver. A great ice & snow car, if (like me, back then) you have no sense! The Elise is a safe, cushy car by comparison.

aaaaah; that explains it. We restored a couple of Europa twin cams in the late 70s. But we were in Va Beach, so not a lot of snow. Replaced the water pump seal more than once. And those rose fittings on the shift linkage were . . . . special.

Also, kudos to Bobert for showing up in the snow in a rear-wheel drive, 454-engined pickup truck!

Default Katie's, 01/22/11

Still some diehards in attendance, even with the temperature in the teens this morning.

Since I washed my Elise last weekend, and put the cover on it, it was too much trouble to uncover it and move cars around to get it out, so I drove my dirty Acura TL.

One attendee brought his Bentley, while Bobert brought his Z06. Another gentleman shared with us his binder of pictures documenting the amazing restoration of an older Jaguar.

If you're up and about on Saturday, there are definitely car guys at Katie's between about 7:30Am to 9 or 9:30AM.

Hey all,

I just joined the forum. Glad to see that Katie's is still going. I'll have to bring a long some friends soon! (p.s. I organize a sports car club for anyone is interested in attending other "all makes and models" meets: The NoVa Sports Car Club (Centreville, VA) - Meetup). Fingers crossed for better weather.

While most main streets are clear, side streets are still icy & snowy, and the Katie's parking lot was still rough. Yet, we still had some car people show up - Bobert, Glen and I had a nice talk inside, though we drove our 'normal' cars.

Still, there seems to never be a complete lack of interesting cars -

Not all 4WD's are SUVs...

The Jaguar was pristine - looked like it had been transported to the ice-covered parking lot, and detailed there.

Default Katie's, 02/05/11 + FoW GTOs

Rainy this morning. Bob S. brought his Z06. Another attendee showed us the restoration binder he made for his 1970 Dodge Challenger 340. Several other car people, including Karl and Thu, were there.

Bobert let me know that Ferrari of Washington had two 599 GTOs in, waiting to be delivered to customers, so I went out and took a few pictures in the afternoon.

Thanx for the invitation, Bob. I used to live in Mass. for couple of years (long time ago) but I never stepped foot in the MidAtlantic territory. From what I have been exposed to, seems like a bunch of unique individuals roaming there. Would be great to pay a visit one of these days. Maybe I can join one of the TomYang.net events. w/ smiles Jimmy
