Anyone wanna be the next defensive coordinator for the Rams? Chas - you can take the job and be back in LA faster than you can say bounty gate,

There is an opening for a head coach and assistant head coach in New Orleans, too.

It's going to be a big issue before it's over.

NFL goon squads are everywhere - this unofficially goes on all the time.

I agree, this has always gone on to some degree.

the NFL just opened a big ol can of worms here...one that could make the game a lot less interesting to watch.

I agree with both of you, Gooddell laid down the law today, and rightfully so. These guys come into the league knowing they're going to be hit and hit hard, but they don't expect to have a bounty placed on their head. Goodell said the investigation was ongoing, and that more people could be reprimanded, which is good on his end, but just wait til other teams get named, plus, I bet there are some players shaking in their boots right now waiting for the hammer to drop on them from this fiasco.

the problem I see is every big name offensive player is going to accuse every other team of having a bounty, and defenses will be afraid to really lay into guys.

they've already made it almost two-hand touch with the QB...

They basically have. IMO, if qb's didn't start sliding before they're touched, the NFL would have been more on par with the XFL. But, I agree, I'm not thrilled with the precedent this sets, because what's to stop Steven Jackson from saying XYZ linebacker hit me on purpose? Even when there is no proof.

That's why the older I get, the one sport that I know I won't get hurt at anymore is bowling, plus the whole ball gets sent back to you thing and the readily available beer and nachos, even while your playing, doesn't hurt either,

I don't know Gents - these guys can deliver blows that would knock me sillier than I am.

NFL players for the most part are goons and thugs.

Rules only matter when fines start getting handed out but don't kid yourself they will rock the crap out of each other for 60 minutes.

You want to see a joke watch the All Star Game where the pretty boys don't hit.

I have been in a three point stance with some bad mo fo's - they can hit hard and do it all over again when the whistle blows.

Only thing I could relate it to is explosions when I got hit and even when I delivered a hit I quickly checked to make sure that he wasn't coming after me on the next play - it's war and the turf is like concrete with pubic hair.

I thought it was funny when this story initially broke that the only people that really didn't think it was a big deal were the players themselves. Nearly everyone they interviewed (offensive and defensive sides) said they knew it was going on and it happens all the time. Pretty much blowing it off as no big deal.

Which is exactly why I think it will be a big issue and one that should have been dealt with in it's entirety behind closed doors - which I am sure it was in part and a deal cut.
