I know it is easy to be "clever after the fact" but the fuel pumps would have been my first test after I had checked for spark. Maybe because I am not as technical. But all the same thank you for your detailed search as I have now learned some more |

Hi Alexander, As I work in a small garage box and as the car was already back on the floor again, I first checked the things I directly could get my hand on. These were the parts on the upper side of the engine. When I found out that these items were ok, I jacked up the car again so that I was able to work at the underside of the car. Unfortunately I only have one jack and two supports, so it is a little tricky to get it up and it takes some time to do so. That's why I worked in this order. In case I would work on the car in a workshop, I also would work in a different order... |

So I ordered a new fuel pump and replaced the old one. The new pump is supplied by the local Ferrari dealer. As you can see on the picture below, the new pump is of a slightly different type. As the original, it is still a Bosch pump, but this new type is thinner and a little longer. It is supplied with a plastic cover, so that it fits in the standard bracket. With the new pump, there was fuel pressure at the left distributor, however the pressure was very low. Therefore the engine still only ran on 6 cilinders. After some more investigation, I found out the the fuel pressure valve from the left distributor did not work. The valve remained open whereby all the fuel was send back to the tank and almost no fuel pressure remained at the distributor. I ordered a new pressure valve and when I mounted it, the engine came back to live on 12 cilinders. Unfortunately, when assembling this new valve, one of the connection bolts on the fuel return hose broke. Therefore I went to a local shop and they made a new (better quality) hose for me. |

By disassembling the left manifold, I saw that someone had add liquid gasket to the flanges of the upper part of the inlet manifold and the lower flanges of the inlet manifold. This has been done twice, because there were 2 kinds of liquid gasket applied. These two flanges are actually connected with a thick rubber gasket in between, so it is not necessary to add any liquid gasket over here. Manybe somebody thought that the engine was running on only 6 cilinders because of a vacuum leak overhere and tried to repair this by adding the liquid gasket... Anyway, I cleaned the flanges and rubber gasket. This rubber gasket was still elestic, so I could reuse this. Then I mounted everything back as it should be. |
