F40 on Fast 'n Loud

I don't know if anybody watches Fast 'n Loud but it has become one of my favorite shows. For those who don't know about it, the show revolves around Gas Monkey Garage restoring and flipping classic cars. Although they tend to focus on GM stuff, it is always a blast to watch. Richard, the owner of the shop, has a friend named Dennis with whom he set the the record for driving across country in a 550/575 (can't remember which or the exact record they set).
Anyway, in the commercial for the new episode, airing Monday on Discovery, the two have been given the opportunity to buy an F40. It is only shown for a moment but I don't think it was in the best of shape. The asking price is $500,000. The commercial makes it seem like they are able to reach a deal on it. It will definitely be worth tuning in to.

Ciao Jules

This is from their site:
"The Gas Monkey crew turn a rat-infested '38 Ford into a cool hot rod. Richard buys football player Emmitt Smith's Mercedes, which comes with a surprise. Is new female welder Alloy up for the GMG challenge? Richard gambles $400K on a banged up Ferrari F-40. "

Anybody watch it last night? If I was Richard, I would have passed even at $400k. There was just way to much damage IMHO. Where would you even find an entire front clip for an F40?

What's the market value for an F40 right now, anyway?

Market price for a DAMAGED (and restored) F40? Personally, after seeing the damage, I wouldn't touch it.

I caught the part of the purchase on TV and will watch the rest tonight on DVR (had to do my taxes, ugh)

I bet they lose their initial investment (not including time and parts).

Nathan, thanks for the original post.
This show was not on my radar.

I agree, it is quite entertaining.

My doubts, that F40 would have a Salvaged title? The extent of Damage I noticed I would have passed, I would if I had the Money Richards friend has and was looking for a F40 I would buy one for 500.000$ that's never been totaled and or any Accident.like my Dad used to say( you gotta be tough if your gonna be Stupid

I like the show - saw the preview with the F40.

Poor guy doesn't get paid enough to take on a F40 given the strength of the internet.

They always say it's the ego that kills ya.

It seems to me that the RIC (Redneck In Charge) is supposed to supply ALL the new parts and labor to restore the F40 and he and the benefactor would split the profit,

There is no chance that the car would be certified by the factory unless the wreck were shipped to Marrenello and all the work done there. What is the labor rate at the rebuild facility? Higher than the redneck rate I would guess.

There is gonna be some losers out there!

F40 Alert-- It looks like "Fast & Loud" will have new show tonite at 10 PM PDST. I hope it will show the completion of the F40 rebuild and it's subsequent sale for profit or loss. My bet would be on loss.

I hope that this isn't a false alarm, but my TV listing says that the F40 program on F&L will be tonight at 6 PM PDST on the Discovery Channel.

Yes, definitely tonite at 9:00 PDST. There MIGHT be a tickler about it at 8, maybe.

BTW, If they break the windshield, it will cost EIGHT kilobucks! ($8000)

Just saw the final episode of the F40 Fiasco on Fast and Loud. What a cop-out! Dennis, the money man decided to buy everyone out and keep the F40 for himself. That car could never pass an official certification by Ferrari, In fact the only thing that was "certifiable" was the mechanic, Tom.. Looks like he came right out of "Deliverance"!

Yeah, it seems like those guys have no appreciation for history - I caught like 5 minutes of it but WTF - they changed the color and cut the frame to get the motor mounts to line up. What other sacrilege did they perform??!? Holy hell.

I hope this dont come as a shock to people but Ferrari Automobili in Maranello dont repair old Ferrari's. The work is always forwarded to other shops in and around Modena. Rgds/Thomas

I watched both episodes and I thought they did a fantastic job on the car. They knew they were going to "keep" the car and did what they wanted to make it their own. I loved the outcome...to each his own. Sure beats seeing an F40 in shambles...

Stuart straightened the frame to within one mill, but when they put in the engine they had to cut the engine mounts and reweld??? Not to mention the total number of frame splices and welds. I believe I would of had the same man that built the front crash box fix the frame with new tubing and attachment points.
