However I don't see prices of F40s (or 288 GTOs, Enzos, F50) headed south anytime soon. Had a long discussion with a friend in the trade yesterday and demand on all is well ahead of supply (Enzo being the only exception). I would buy an F40 now and enjoy it.[/QUOTE]

I think you are right but in negotiations with Mrs Schnellmann I've agreed to wait until at least spring 2013. In the meantime I'm looking at buying something else (Ferrari of course!) to tie me over, although main problem is getting hold of an additional parking space in our underground garage. I've thought about getting an older car (like 512) or semi-classic like a 355 but I already have a mint 993, which is a really sweet handling car with manual gearbox, no electronics (and not really that quick). So have decided to get something completely different and more modern. Most likely a 360 CS. Prices here in Switzerland seem quite good (particularly now in the winter) and there are a few nice cars on the market. Although the 430 Scud is quite tempting too (which I know is faster and more modern) but I might not be keeping the car that long if the F40 plan works and I think the value of the Scud is more likely to fall in the next 12 months as more used 458s come onto the market. I also love the looks of the 360 CS. The normal 360 doesn't do it for me but the changes they made for the CS seem to transform it. A bit like the 996 GT3 I had, which I thought looked great even though I am not a fan of the standard 996. Any thoughts or advice from anyone, gratefully received.

The CS is fantastic. Just buy some ear protection as my ears still hurt from when I drove behind one in a tunnel 3 years ago. And Switzerland is full of tunnels.

+1, it would seem that a CS would fit the brief.

Default F-40

Cannot tell you how to spend your money. Just consider these random thoughts.
Not a "pretty" vehicle like a 250GTO or 308. Rather, an aggressive gnarly look that is drop-dead sexy gorgeous. From every angle.
Spartan interior is part of its charm.
Started in 1993 with 1700 miles, now just shy of 50k. Still causes uncontrollable smiling just by firing it up.
Back end breaks loose when tromp the go pedal at 4000rpm.
Still accelerating in 5th when hit the brakes approaching Turn 1 at Road America, felt it drop smoothly under me/not lurch, downshifted, and then looked at speedo. Needle was coming down but still north of 180.
What is the question?
Good luck.

Schnellmann,

I also live in Switzerland, been thinking about the F40, own a mint 993... and recently purchased a Scuderia (I happen to love the 360 CS as well, and can give you my own opinion). It looks like we have a few things in common!

I have been on the road almost all the time since the beginning of the year, and have stayed away from FL, but now I expect to be around here more frequently.

Please, PM me if you want to catch-up.

Regards,
Rallyman

Beautifully put. Yours must be one of the best used F40s in the US.

Thanks for the kind words.
Not piling up the mileage on the F-40 as quickly now that I am retired. Daily driver, weather permitting, when working. Generally would know a tuneup was needed when could not hit redline in 2nd gear with speedo almost to 105mph.
Currently getting belts replaced so can be back in action in the spring.
Sincerely hope some of you across the ocean might be able to come to the Ferrari Club of America National Meet to be at Road America, 2013, about an hour north of Milwaukee.
Best to all of you

Do you have the dates for the FCA 2013 Meet?

FCA 2013 National Meet to be July30- August4, 2013.
Realize that the track is only about 5 minutes from the village of Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, where we hosted the 2009 FCA National.
The track, Road America, speaks for itself. Check out youtube videos, including a fast lap in a 333SP at the 2009 event, for some nice in-car footage. 4 miles, 14 turns per lap, elevation changes...
Now, would anyone want to drive their Ferrari on-track with no speed or noise limits?
