Sorry to have kept you up late at night, if it were my fault, Doug.

Before, I started this search, my impression of 288 was just superficial facts and visual image/impression only. Seems like the more I learn, the more it is becoming interesting. Did not know that 288 and the few Evo models were the forerunner of F40 (similar design). And on and on.

It was actually a lot of fun

E-mailed a local owner about his 288 GTO - the owner has a 100 car plus car collection and sends his cars all over the world for proper restoration.

Keep in mind he drives all his cars and often rents out a local track to spend the day tracking his race purpose cars.

My guess his 288 GTO was restored but will confirm and pass along any information - he was also the local Ferrari Club President for many years.

Earlier in the thread I posted his 288 GTO.

Yes, I remember the pic. Thanx. Your "local" owner is at the top of the totempole, so to speak. Totally beyond my comprehension and simply amazing, Doug. w/ smiles Jimmy

Do you speak GLUE !
No seriously now, The knowledge has grown braodbased since then. Of course its not the same but in case of the F50 my vendor has a own in-house carbon support center ( because of their intense racing activity for private clients) where very seldom parts need to be totally changed but they are repaired instead. They have a bunch of F40 and F50 (as well as 288) clients and told me that in most cases a reparature is the way to go instead of trying to change the whole disrupted part. Close examination will tell you surely lots of stories.

The only body panel informational read was ...

Doug, thanks for the nice Sheehan report. I always like his pragmatic down to earth analysis.

good luck jimmy. i'm sure the right one will show up with patience. The few people i have talked to in the know say there are none available. Pretty rare bird when you can't find one! All the more pleasure when you do. I'm sure you have a lot of people keeping their eye out.

I heard about a fellow in Germany that just recently found a wrecked 288 GTO (racetrack incident) and intends to rebuild/restore.

I wonder if this is a potential path for you Jimmy? For some this would be a complete 'non-starter' but thought I would just throw it out there regardless.

Yet another one ? That, I am not aware of. w/ smiles Jimmy

PS. Could that be the one owned by a famous cartoonist in France or Belgium ?

Not sure if it is or not. Believe Nigel is hunting down the details.
