Do you have any pics of the exhaust?

As the weather today was as close to perfect as it gets here, to balance taking the F50 out this morning, I took the F40 out in the early evening after most of the traffic had cleared. As per the morning, #2 son volunteered to come along as co-pilot. He has had a real soft spot for the F40 ever since the 1st time I took him out in it years ago when he was 7. When I lite up the turbos on his first time out, he just started laughing and telling me to ...do it again, and again.and then one more time.

As usual it started right up and settled into a perfect idle. After a few minutes we headed out for the local "east" loop. Driving the 2 "F" cars back to back, you can't help do a bit of a compare and contrast. The F40s suspension feels harder as every bump in the road gets communicated right back to the driver. The F50 absorbs more of the bumps. The F40 always wants you to give it a bit more gas and light the turbos up. The F50 will trundle along happily until you want to throw yourself at the horizon. Passing other cars in the F50 is just plain easy. In the F40 you have to make sure you don't end up suddenly going a lot faster than planned. The core of the F50 soundtrack is when you run the revs up towards the redline. In the F40, the two elements that I love are when the turbos begin to spin up and then right after you lift off and it dumps fuel into the exhaust. Steering in both cars is superb and overall grip impressive.

Both are always a great experience to take out.

About as good a way to spend a sunny Sunday as I can think of.
Glad to hear the Fs are getting out and running well.

Weather looked perfect in the UK and it was even 80F yesterday in Oslo. Lived in Oslo three years and like to keep tabs on the weather. Was a lot colder in 1958-61 when I lived there.

Hopefully you hit a pub today. That is real sit outside at the pub kind of weather.

We had about the same temps as London today, except the humidity was 6% and there was a 30 knot wind.

Hope you were able to enjoy the weather in your 575 as well.

Didn't make it to the Pub. Too many other activities in-between the drives.

Nice tame drive out in the F40 this afternoon. Managed to get a window where both the roads were dry and it did not look like rain was coming shortly. As usual, the F40 started right up and settled into steady idle. After a few minutes when the needles had moved off their pegs we headed off. Slightly different route today. Took a long straight stretch of a major "A" road to give it a chance to fully warm up before heading off into the curvy stuff. Steering on the F40 really is brilliant and it carves the corners brilliantly. Only really opened it up once when two young guys in a BMW decided to try to sit on my tail (the ugly side of camera phones, of which on of them was waving.). The F40 really does re-enfoce the basics of proper sports driving. Make sure you do all your major middle and right pedal inputs while the car is headed in a straight line.

It is such a different car to drive that I find that taking it out every few weeks helps me remember how to pilot it well.

I'm sitting here all day writing my practical part for an exam on Thursday with Chris Rea's La Passione playing in the background and then you post this. Just gave a a long loving sigh at that photo. Thank you

I did a morning run in the Scud and we did get caught in the rain at the very end.

Be great to have you on the Sunday drives. We organize them all via: Scuditalia - The Supercar Owners Club - Powered by vBulletin

Had a really good run in the F40 today up to the Silverstone Classic for the 25 Anniversary gathering. Last I heard over 60 F40s made it out of the 70 that were originally signed up so a pretty good turn out. Round trip was exactly 150 miles including the 2 parade laps. Driving an F40 around the Silverstone circuit at 30 mph is just feels weird. The F40 has gotten a fair amount of use this year and really is running nicely. As I have been driving it regularly, everything just feels smoother and in-sync. Hear are a couple of more pictures from the day:

Beautiful pix of the herd of F-40's.
Touring at low speed must have had folks squirming in their seats, ready to go to full-boost on the straights.
333 motor not back from Michelotto so going to Road America in early Aug with F-40 for driving time.
Saw the Momo 333SP at vintage event in paddock last week.
Heard that interest expressed by couple of European owners re bringing F-40's to FCA 2013 National. Hope that works out. I shall have to be with them when I make up the run groups so I can enjoy the view of other F-40's while driving.
Best.

Enjoy the F40 at Road America. They are wonderful to drive on a track.

How often do you need to rebuild the engine on the 333SP?

As it was a stunning day, took the F40 out for a decent length drive (along with a couple of others). F40 was a bit less grumpy than the F50 when it got woken up from a rather long nap. The car warmed up quickly and came alive very shortly after hitting the road. While the Scuderia maybe a showcase of raw focused technology, the F50 the recipient of perhaps the best engine and gearbox ever to be fitting in a road car, it is near impossible to top the F40 in terms of character and thrill when the turbos light up. Taking it out for drive is always a great adventure and completely engaging. The F40 has great presence on the road and just completely shrinks when you begin to push it a bit. For a model that is 25 years old now, it still can keep pace with anything else on the road.

Also got quite a few thumbs up while driving through a couple of towns. Always a nice sign.
