Speaking of seeing rare cars on the street, I ran into a Porsche 959 on my way home from the office today. Car was in great condition and motoring along quite smartly.

It is a shame that car is not street legal in the U.S. My brother at one time lived in Seattle and rummor had it that Bill Gates was trying to get two in and couldn't. After seeing a 959 this year at Laguna Seca I don't believe the rumor, that and the fact that another person I know has a TVR here in the U.S. as well.

There was one for sale here in LA at Heritage Sports cars.

I don't know what it sold for.

Actually they still have it under the "current inventory." Hmmm... maybe I need to take a swing by and find out...

The story about Bill Gates and the 959 is true and played out over several years. He was actually finally able to get the car into the US using a "once in a lifetime exemption". This was a loophole which was created for a couple of years and he helped get passed. The "once only exemption" has now been eliminated and we are all back to the 25 year wait to be exempt from DOT regulations.

Yes you do. :green: That is a Porsche I wouldn't mind having in my garage. I've never been a big fan of the 911 as you just see too many of them.

Laws. The car wasn't made for the U.S. market, therefore it didn't pass U.S. emissions standards or bumper regulations.

Yes, that and the fact that Porsche refused to provide a couple to the DOT for crash testing.

Looks quite nice indeed!

There should be a worldwide standard for emissions and bumpers (and lights too)
