Boxer has sent his Daytona to Al at Alsa automotive for a respray. What follows are pictures from the respray and restoration. Guranteed to be be a very entertaining read Day 1 Introducing the Ferrari 365... also known as the Daytona Last edited by Angelis; 01-02-2009 at 04:08 AM. |

Day 2 Al says.... "I've removed the drivers' door seal & re-set the catch assemlies (I'll need to make floating cages for the B post receivers as they are currently just bolted through the B post, but that is no problem) fit & operation is very much improved. I've also included a pic of each fuel tank, I'm aiming to get them out tomorrow, but need to cut and drill an access hole in the boot floor as the drain plug has been panelled over."

Day 3 Al says.... "I have got the tanks out today, pics attached (drained about 4 gallons of fuel out, so please remind me at the end of the work how much was in her). I'm dropping them off at the fabricators' tomorrow for pressure testing, we should know by a week today that they are ok. (There was still a heavy smell of fuel inside the boot). Hopefully you can see from these pics why I was a little cautious about the tanks? I'll be beginning the stripdown tomorrow."

Day 4 Al says......... "She's mostly stripped down (I'll be waiting a few days for my windscreen guy to come down & get the front & rear glass & the rear quarterlights out). I've not come across any more problems than I was expecting. Some of the chrome could be improved, but IIRC we've already talked about this? There is nothing really grim, just not the best quality chrome job done. I'll be getting new door kick plates made as the existing ones have been drilled incorrectly - would you prefer brushed or polished stainless? There are some scratches in the door drop glass, I'll get my windscreen chap to look at them & if possible we'll polish them out. Aim for tomorrow is to remove the tailpipes & all of the headlining buttress trims etc to get a good look at the piller issues. I hope this is all ok with you? Only thing I've come across that we need are the door seals - the bonnet struts are a bit weak as well - might be worth finding out if they can be re-gassed. Everything else I can source myself from my usual suppliers (boot seal, kick plates, B post & kick plate edging trim etc). I've dropped the tanks off for pressure testing & ordered a pair of floating cages for the B post door catch receiver from my fabricator, which should be ready when I collect the tanks. Are you happy with me re-fitting her with stainless steel nuts, bolts, screws etc?" Last edited by Boxer; 07-07-2010 at 12:52 PM.

Day 5 Al says........ The door handle assy's, rear quarter glass (it was only soft bonded in, so I was able to remove them myself) roof edge finishers, tailpipes & interior piller trims & parcel shelf all removed. As you can see, all of the strengthening that should be there internally is there (not the tidiest in the world, but they were never particularly well finished from the factory! I will clean it all back & add some more welds though), so I'm pretty sure the piller outer skin cracking is caused by seam joints in the alloy having been ground thin, so I'll make a few new sections that lap under and seam weld & then spot weld the lap into place. A couple of pics also of the B posts where the door receivers were fitted. Finally one of a bit of cracking on the top of the drivers' door.

Day 11 Al says.... "Other than the lower sill/front panel sections, she's pretty much stripped. Not found any problems or horrors', she's very much as expected. Last few bits of paint will be off tomorrow & she'll have a really good cleanout before the fabrication work begins."

Day 13 Al says...... "O/s bonnet hinge removed & re-shaped, fitted & shimmed. Catch & wing rubbers modified & re-set, bonnet now fits reasonably well & the opening/closing action is a lot nicer. (Might be worth comparing it to the fit in the very 1st pic - 1ss365)."
