I'm keeping you on my A-List. Once again, would have liked more in-between pics of the details.

But I understand the scenario.

Also, was dismayed at the conversion of a 11 window to an 15 window since your work is so good, but I understand the interesting exercise and some person's desire to get there 'under a budget'. Wouldn't stop me from using your services for 'my special project' if ever had the bread to do such.

Thanks for the posting.

The issue would be getting the car back and forth.

TMS, impressive and fabulous know how. What would it take to recreate, say a rear bonnet lid of a 246 GT L in aluminum alloy ? Time and cost and logisitics ? Thanx. w/ smiles Jimmy

The ingenuity that goes into the "simple" stamping tool is fantastic. In many ways, being resourceful enough to engineer a solution like that is more impressive than taking the time to commission a custom stamping die just to have ti done by machine.

Great thread.

Just looked at this thread and I'm in awe. This isn't just a project, it's pornography.

ok back again! The front panel under the mouth showed signs of accident damage and needed to be replaced as the original panel material was not only thin but heavily leaded in areas.
The photos show the flat sheet firstly being wheeled into shape with patterns taken from the non accident side.A simple 'knock over' jig was then made to form the flanges. There is an incredible amount of transforming shape in such a small area in this panel. The top of the panel curves to follow the profile of the grille shell to straight as the panel wraps around the bottom structure bar.I tried to capture the shape transformation in a couple of the photos.

Very impressive. Looks like lots of metal working rules of thumb you are using, all learned the hard way. Like knowing where to cut those openings so you had enough metal left to form the wall of the vent. Ingenious form you used to make the vent exactly the correct shape. All without splitting the metal while forming the vent.

Yes: Wall of the vent. Did you not weld [looks like you did not] the inner walls of the vented, curved, openings? Not sure how you did that without extra pieces.
