I originally wanted ARP's but the turn around time was months and I couldn't wait that long and OEM was $100/stud.

Good JE pistons or Wisecos are and always have been fine by me, but it's funny how some get kinked up about the issue of using 'American made' pistons. I was talking with a fellow in Germany some months ago and he mentioned it was a shame I was not having my pistons made by........you guess it, a German company lol. Weird. I'm running about .0025-.003 piston to wall clearance and have pretty much perfect leak so it doesn't seem like a shame to me. Everyone has their opinions though right.

On that note, I believe Mahle make hands-down the craziest nice stuff out there as I believe their tooling can get piston ring land tolerances down to a couple microns now, but with Mahle you really pay for it! And I believe they use the same 2618 aluminum alloy JE and Wiseco use from Alcoa Canada anyway.

not to get this thread off track but JE says more like .0030-.0036 min for the 2618 in a sport engine with a bore of 2.500-3.625 so your number seems a bit tight??? your numbers are right for the 4032 alloy???

Wow. The last time I bought head studs was probably 5 or 6 years ago and I think I got them for something like $20 a stud, and I was complaining about that. Talk about inflation.

Ferrari prices for vintage parts have gone crazy. There are few cases when you cannot beat them by a mile haveing one off custom parts made.

Mahle makes great pistons and rings and while they have opened an aftermarket division here in the US supposedly serving the needs of you and me it seems they have little interest in doing projects for less than a couple of hundred units and your name needs to be Yates or Roush.

Worked on swapping over aluminum cam gears to new cams, transferred pins and bolts. Buckets back in original locations. I had some block off plates made for the lack of distributors now as well as Im having a circular plug made to plug the hole where the air injection pump drive used to be. The new cams have no provisions for the drive unless we opted to pay for it and get the ugly unused shaft sticking out the end of the head.

Tomorrow ill check lash and ill be degreeing in the cams. Theres a few more things I want to get done on the car so I may do a bit of both tomorrow.

Check out the cracked plastic cam gear, I can't imagine the look on Bretts face if that failed crusing down the road! The aluminum gears will outlast the car.

Nice crack.

I mean that in the nicest way.

Nice gears. Who made them?

Since we cant see the front side are they drilled all the way around or just the 5 indexing holes?

8 Indexing holes. 5 on one half, 3 180 degrees away. Not sure who machines them but Rutlands and superformance sells them. I suspect superformance is the channel they all go through.

Heres a pic of a gear from the other 3.4 I'm doing. The installer of the gears worked his magic on the dowels, even the smallest part isn't safe from the hacks out there.

Some nice shots from today. I was up on the weekend to have a look, chat and of course pay some $$. Gertrude looks outstanding, the colour in the sun is outstanding (vibrant), the attention to detail is very Newman like, and the sheer "newness" of the 34 year old beauty is breath taking.

I am giving Paul some breathing room as well, despite an agreed upon date of May 1st, as well as Paul being on target for it, the new delivery date is May 28th as I will be out of town until the 5th, then gone again from the 10th to the 27th. This should give plenty of time for him to shake it out and break it in.

Exciting times ahead!

Did more on the engine then focused on the car itself.

Rad fans sorted out, I kept getting rad fan motors with mis-matched blades or broken etc. Took 5 tries to get 2 good motors and blades.

New condenser on a detailed rad, new foam around and under the rad, new a/c o-rings and lines connected.

Hood on, foam on the hood to come. Master cylinder reservoir cleaned out, floats checked and terminals cleaned for low fluid warning circuit.

Latches adjusted and functional.

The euro reproduction bumpers need a little creative mounting to fit the car. The dummy front shocks that replace the OEM shocks with a fixed retracted mount won't even come close to fitting this replacement bumper and rather than modify the retracted mounts ill make new simple brackets from some bar stock I have laying around here. The rear bumper needs a little shimming to make it sit flat but shouldn't be too much of a challenge.

Loving the look of the car, I need another GTB baaaad.

Maybe we can get Dave to make another run of these which use the stock belt. Brilliant quality Dave, I find myself staring at them. I'll be installing these this weekend.
