+1, Newman's work is very impressive.

Yay! Another restoration thread! Can't have enough of those. Newman's work is indeed very impressive and surely this one will be better than the yellow one?

Looking forward to updates.

hey brett, i was wondering why you decided to take on this project as opposed to buying a nice example? Maybe you talked about it in another thread and i missed it. Either way, thanks for posting up this thread, i am very interested to follow it.

Wetpet, outside of Paul's last 308 I really could not find a nice example. I wanted a 308 GTB carbed and I want it to be 'right' for as long as I own it, so i figured I'd get a southern car with decent history and let Paul work his magic.

More progress. Im focusing on the interior so I can drop it off at the shop thats making everything from scratch in black so thats under way while I take the rest of the car apart. I removed the interior with the exception of the dash which is tomorrow evenings project.

The dash is next then I can send the interior out to get duplicated in black. Ill remove the exterior lights, trim then engine next.

On the US spec cars theres a fuel pump cut-off switch in the base of the drivers seat that opens the circut to the pump if you get out of the car while its running. Doubt any of them are still functional today, its been jumped long ago. Cant understand the reasoning behind this, if you fall out of the car while you're driving it, it'll continue to run until the fuel bowls are empty. I just dont get it.

Console has the build number hand written on tape that matches the door panels and chassis build number. Note US designation, probably due to the rear defrost switch that isnt typical in a Euro car.

Probably due to some long forgotten short lived DOT rule.

It's very cool to see all the hidden jewels like the handwritten build # on various parts. Really is awesome.

I just looked at the first post and didn't see any mention on paint color. Are you having Paul respray the car in Rosso or something else?

Paul is using the same painter that did his yellow 308 restoration, it will be bare metal and back to rosso corsa, though I am trying to find the paint code for the 458 rosso corsa as I'd like to get her done in that colour.

To no avail so far though.

Brett- I am pretty sure the Rosso Corsa on the 458 is FER 322, PPG Code 75250. With the PPG Code, any auto paint shop can provide that two part (epoxy) paint and clear coat.

Will do some more research to make sure.

Yup, that is the 458 Rosso Corsa.
