This Unit uses a 5554 processor so it will run the o5e code http://www.neweagle.net/support/wiki...36350_0904.pdf 80 MHz 5554 8 fuel 8 spark 14 low side (optional drivers) Tach 2 H-bridges Vr and Hall engine position 33AN inputs 4 O2 sensors 2 knock 3 CAN 1 RS-485 $495 They have a version with slightly less stuff for $450 They sell these to FSAE teams for $250 so there is probably room to deal for an o5e price. This issue is finding out what all this stuff attaches to inside so the code can b configured properly. |

Once I (or one of the other team members) have it (they said free-be are slow and could take 1-2 months) and get it opened up getting the code to run on it should be pretty quick and depending on what is attached where it MIGHT be possible to make some of the 14 optional digital outputs available as fuel/spark or PWM. This is becoming very real very fast now and for all you V8 guys thinking about trying the o5e ECU there is about to be a nice OEM quality (woodward is Mercury Marine) off the shelf HW solution available for under $500.

Well, the New Eagle deal died as fast as it began.....sort of. Apparently they can't sell the woodward ECU to the general public so even if I get one it would be a dead end. They said they have some new 55xx based controller products coming that they can sell to the general public, but they are not specifically engine controllers so I don't have a lot of hope that the input and output drivers will be appropriate for engine control. New path. The 2010+ GM ECUs use a 5566 processor and in theory can be re-programmed as o5e ECUs Does anybody have any electronic reverse experience and an interest in helping figure out what is attached where in a GM ECU? |

Mark, those are nice looking ECU's and very good specs too. Are they just the latest development of the Motohawk line from Woodward (Mototron)? Woodward Motohawk Control Systems As you probably know, the last generation of Motohawks are also being marketed to the hotrod aftermarket by the ProEFI outfit Professional EFI Systems Inc. (headed up by Jason Siebels, the guy who rehashed the GEMS ECU from the UK, and it eventually became the 1st generation AEM) What a tight little community these ECU developers have! I got the New Eagle situation wrong yet again. The guy is saying we can buy it (and he's got 100s in stock) but can't use it because its got a propitiatory boot loader design to work only with MotoHawk software....which means nothing once I get the case open and onto the processor pins ![]() so this deal might be back on.

Do you know if those latest GM's still require the funky GM crank trigger pattern? I don't remember what it was, but it's weird. That was enough to put people off who wanted to use the GM ECU's for hotrodding. ![]() That is an e38 which is the old GM ECU - I need to get that order canceled. This is the right one, an E78 (E39 is good too). These use the 5566 chip and will run the o5e software. 2011 SILVERADO SIERRA 6.0L CRUZE 1.4L ECM ENGINE CONTROL MODULE 12642100 | eBay

This is marching closer and closer to running an engine. A couple little things with the way the tuner burns tables are being sorted out. Once the tables are fully operational all the math can be confirmed so there is no question the ecu is coming up with the answers it should be for fuel pulse and ignition timing....then software wise it's ready to hook up to an engine. On the hardware front: The GM ecu is not cracked yet and is set aside until after first run I think. This ecu has only CAN (no serial) so the CAN stuff is being added to the code and seems to be working. CAN is useful for a lot of things and adding it was always on the list, but now it's just sooner rather than later. The custom board continues to be tweaked and seems to be just about there. The plan is to get this hooked up to an engine next month. One of the main programers is a retired aerospace guy and just so happens to have a BB chevy he was prepping for a home-built plane sitting on an engine stand so complete board 1 is going to him. He'll be testing a "lite" version of the software (less is more in aerospace world) but the core stuff is the same as o5e and he can load the full code once the lite version is tested. Another HW option came to mind yesterday. There is a $99 5634 demo board available and about 3/4 of the guys actually helping on the project have one for testing code but it doesn't have any Input/output circuits . Yesterday I realized the demo board could be connected to a $90 MS3X (MegaSquirt 3 expansion) MegaSquirt-III MS3X Expansion Card DIYAutoTune.com and it would be a working ECU with 8 spark and 8 fuel channels and a few optional outs for under $200. Connected to 2 of the MS3X boards it would be a pretty nice ECU for under $300 with all off the shelf stuff. A little frankensteiny but not too bad. The plan is to assemble one of these and get it hooked up to an engine. In mid June freescale will be releasing an "ECU demo board" for $500 that is a complete ecu with 4 spark, 8 fuel and some optional out drivers then pins so external drivers could be added. This is nice because it's a neat package with no soldering required. Progress. |

Haha. Yes, well the only decision I have now is whether I want the Jenvey throttle bodies or something different. I don't think I'm going to do the shower injection arrangement. It's just not sitting right. Plus the weber throttle shafts and butterflies suck

Lead programmer Jon worked his magic and all the tuner to ecu communication issue appear to be fixed at this point so you can fire up the ecu and tuner software and tune away (on the bench) which is pretty cool. I'm working at getting a "test mode" added so it will be easy to set specific sensor readings and read the ecu outputs using the tuner. This will make all the basic testing go a whole lot faster. I get the tuner setup to do it today, now the make the ecu understand what I want....which will most likely involve Jon. I've got Sean (luckydynes) all prepped to do some actual engine testing, he'll be sending me his current ecu info so I can convert it to an o5e tune. Jon is meeting with a commercial ecu company next week who's apparently interested in using a version of the o5e code for low volume oem stuff like marine and construction equipment. Things are going fast now. |

I've been flat out on this the last week or so and it seems to be mostly working. Another week or 2 of testing then it will be off to Sean for real world testing....the plan is to have the $200 hardware running his 308 the by the end of the month. To do a V12 it would still take $300 of hardware.....but still not bad ![]() For anyone who wants to boring details of the ecu world its here: http://forum.open5xxxecu.org/index.php |

Nice. So, Sean is our beta tester? He loves data so this is right up his alley
