i left the 308 ticking over for 10 mins last night after doing a local car show, when i returned to it the temp had risen above 195f more than it has ever done before (just under the next increment on the gauge)as soon as i gave her a blip it shot back to 195? is it just a hotspot, airblock etc?or something more sinister it was a sunny warm day aswell compared to normal!if anyone has previous experience of this I'd be grateful for your experience!thanks chaps.

Bleed the coolant of air, and check the fans as working properly. Might have a look at the thermostat. When is the last time you changed the coolant... usual suspects. I mean afterall, it was 'a sunny warm day'.... such drastic weather for your area probably made the paint melt Guide to the Galaxy: Don't Panic Rik -- LAH ! Sounds normal to me. Ferraris have very efficient cooling systems when there is air flowing through the radiator(s). When not moving, though, system temperatures rise quickly until they are controlled by the electric fans(s).

My 1976 308 GTB cycles between 185 and 195 degrees when idling on even the hottest of days. When the water temperature reaches 195, the fan kicks in until the temperature goes down to 185. Then the fan shuts off and the cycle begins again. Check what Rik has suggested. Barry |

My 328 did the same while I sat in traffic due to an accident on the highway. Once past the accident and air moved through the car, you could watch the temp gauge move as fast as my fuel gauge when I stomp the gas Current: 1986 328 GTS [Nero/Rossa] DailyDiver: 2012 MB E350 Damn, where are my keys! |

Sounds about right. I remember my 308 GTB getting quite hot when caught in traffic in Spain bit cooling quickly as soon as we started to move.
