Pete, I couldn't live with myself putting expanded metal for ferrari grille. I really want to do it proper. There is a local ferrari used parts warehouse about 30 miles from me I'm sure he will have a few, but at least thanks for the ideas.. He is also where I have been told to get all my belts, hoses, gaskets, or anything I would otherwise order from ferrari.

Brett, look forward to hearing about it! I sent my distributors to the family mechanic who is going to set the points/dwell. The points were all brand new when I took the distributors out, so I will deal with them until I make my final decision on what brand to choose.

Once again thank you all for your input!
-Ryan

GT Car Parts? If so, you're a lucky chap indeed - they're a first rate source.

Hi Ryan,
Congratulations on your new 308! Beautiful car!
I have a couple of spare grilles. One is original and the other is custom fabricated to accomodate lights on each side. Both are reasonably priced. I have a long list of other 308 parts also. Drop me a message if you have an interest!
Thanks and best...Jim

Oh no, the "points" nightmare. Lets see. In almost 15 years of various online forums, the number one cause of death was, uhmmm, failure of the electronic ignition unit. NOT points. Search the archives. Of all the Ferrari's ive seen or witnessed getting towed, every one was an electronic ignition failure.

Ferrari won over 5000 victories before the advent of electronics, 24 hours LeMans, Targa Florio, Sebring, etc.. The distributors on his early cars were really no different than what is on a 308. Points aren't the problem, mechanics who have no understanding of points are the problem.

Norwood used an early model Chev distributor addapted to one of the twin distributors and blocked off the other and with MSD 6al and it was a cheap good fix. I personally did not like the dual distributors on any of the US 308s. Its like trying to tune 2 four cylinder engines sharing a common crank shaft. The 55 Chev distributor has 8 cam lobes and with the MSD you will not have any problems unless you give it a bath, these engines don't like water unless you put some tight seals around the plug holes and wires.

I have know Bill and Dave for over 25 years, these guys are the best. I use to stop in and visit with them when I was going through, they have more knowledge of Ferrari and Lamborghini parts than anyone I know of. You might ask them about the single distributor set up, they might have one on the shelf.

Barchetta may have the phone number of a mechanic who installed a Ford grille in a 328.

I think it looks wickedly cool and a picture can be found on the DC/MD/VA region under the Cars & Coffee Annapolis thread. The car is sera blue.

Check out the picture and PM Barchetta for the mechanic's name and number.
