Nothing humble about the "i" GTS, Mike. A lovely Ferrari that grows on you the more you drive her and admire her beautiful lines.

Thanks to David for looking after the 308. She unfortunately had an irritating low speed misfire from a tankful of cr@p pertrol. It has definitely improved from David's driving her but I will likely have to have the fuel system flushed and reset.

Kind regards

Mike
Mike, sounds to me like you couldn't have left your car in better hands! David should just quit whatever he's doing and fly around the world car-sitting for people and doing write ups on each one. The next Jeremy Clarkson!

As for your crap petrol, I don't know what you get in South Africa but here in the US all petrol is crap. Where I live it is 10% ethanol. Ethanol absords water, which of course doesn't burn, and it also eats away at all the rubber hoses and gaskets that make up the fuel system.

Absolutely Pete - David is the best hands one could leave a car with. Absolute blind faith that he treats any car as if it were his own.

WRT the petrol, I have historically put in lead replacement petrol and this is now coming to an end. Whilst in a rush at the end of last year, I put in a tankful of 93 unleaded and then went running around for a few days - got through the whole tank.

The 308 immediately developed a terrible misfire - I thought it may be an ignition problem but then searched FLife and found an article where David talked about some problems with his 308 and someone responded that it may be a bad batch of fuel.

I immediately filled up the rest of the tank with Shell V Power and put in an octane booster which improved things by about 90%.

On Sunday I put in a bottle of injector cleaner and the problem is gone.

It was very irritating but seems to be all sorted.

You are too kind Pete! Indeed I would be happy to fly around the world car-sitting and doing write ups on each one. Unlike Clarkson, I would not be so pro AMG. And so anti-911!

No one can kill a Toyota HiLux. Not even Clarkson. The Chuck Norris of cars.

Clarkson rocks! Top Gear is the only show I watch religiously.. they did a b.s. race with a 328 I think it was, and a small minivan thing. But there was debris and cut out sections of the road the ferrari had to slow down for so the minivan thing won... sorry, kinda off topic.

Hi Mike, in my opinion

I think that injector problem might be coming of age, not necessarily the fuel, had the same problem with an 1990 VW Golf GTi, they just needed a cleanup (like you mentioned injector cleaner )

I'd recommend Sasol Unleaded 95 and a bottle of octane booster (optional)

They (Sasol) filling stations checks for water in their tanks every 12 hours, I also believe Petrol from Sasol is the best around, found and very interesting article about Sasol Synthetic Fuels (out of coal ) instead of mineral oil and its amazing, burning clean fuels does wonders for a car especially fuel tank and injectors condition...the fuel also burns clean with a less 'petrol ' smell from the exhausts.

I also know for a fact that most alternative fueling stations in RSA especially around Gauteng (example Excell / Shell etc ) are supplied with Sasol petrol but with their own respective additives.

I've had a bad experience with Shell V-Power beginning of last year, water from their tanks ended up in my tank when I filled-up and the car stalled(half a tank), luckily started immediately again after I stood still for a couple of minutes - I could drive to an alternative fueling station, filled the car up with Sasol unleaded 95 and for the last year I only used that and has not experienced any problems since...original injectors etc on my 328.

awesome right-up on the 308 David !

yeah, they kind made the 'super car' from the 80's look bad in that episode, Top Gear rocks but I can't say the same about Clarkson. - just a thought...
