Default Blue Drops...

Hello all,

After I arrived home from picking the 328 up I noticed three blue drops of fluid under the engine....I cleaned it up and drove it again yesterday for a 2 hour drive or so and after sitting in the garage again same blue drops...same place. I assume it is gear box fluid....anyone else had this and if so should i just keep cleaning it up or should I have it corrected.....the drip does not bother me...but I don't want to chance any damage.

Many thanks,

Shane

Shane, blue color, wouldn't that be coolant rather? Can you locate it where it drops from?

Actually I think coolant is bright green.....these few drops are coming from the center of the car right under the engine...feels like oil so I assumed it was gear box lubricant...

Redline shockprook is a thicker blue gearbox oil. You can tell if its a water based fluid or an oil.

Swepco gear oil is bright blue and far more widely used than Shockproof in the Ferrari business, especially on the west coast.

It was a great oil by 19th century standards and makes them shift like crap cold. There are still quite a few Koolaid drinkers out there using it, probably working by the light of a kerosene lamp.

Make sure its the lightweight instead of heavy. Heavy is for diffs and transfer cases and will clog oil passages on a transmission.

yes Boxer it sat for a while for sale...the drip rate is not getting worse but also not getting better....my wife wanted us to take the car to SFO or the weekend recently and I am reluctant to roll that far with a dripping gearbox. My mechanic wants to wait to correct it at the same time I do the belts....he re-inspected the car after my purchase and PPI and recommended i let the belts go for a while as they looked brand new etc. My previous owner did the heavy....drove it 5500 miles and parked it essentially and the calendar time on the belts is driving the replacement......sure would like to have the drip sorted so I may bite the bullet and do it again soon and sort my weeps and drips..

I would put a couple hundred miles on it and see if the drip rate changes. It is not uncommon for seals to come back on cars that have been sitting for a while after a bit of use. Just be careful it does not get worse.
