If you're coming to Scotland over the next few days you are going to get your desired snow as we're going from 20c to 4c & sunshine to snow in one day, brrrrr!
Well, who was the guy who suggested to me taking the "F" for Fled to Scotland.........with the snowshovel in front ??

This is a cool thread - congratulations, Barry! I had zero history in my database on this car until now.

I need an Aventador!

Thanks Carbon
I'll keep the reports coming. Up to 4,000km now since my acquisition in November.

BTW, in case you want it for your database, the car had only 1 owner (and English gent) from 1977 to 1999, it's second custodian owned the car from 1999 to late 2011 when I bought it. I am it's 3rd owner in 35 years, which is I think is quite uncommon for a car of such age.

This is the number of kilometers that you put on the car since you got it, or the number of kilometers total?

Thanks, Barry! And not only is it uncommon, it's absolutely fantastic when you can acquire a car this old with such a short ownership history - and the car isn't covered in dust and completely apart in half a dozen boxes!

Overnight we have had an absolute BLIZZARD, it's 1 metre deep in places, where it has banked up, the winds howling and I Mean howling, I want to relocate to a warmer country, if only I could get my toys out. On the upside, it'll be great fun in the 4x4

By Thursday it's meant to be 10c, so the snow by then disappear & will hopefully be a distant memory for another year.....incredible how it can be 20c one day and 3c the next, I much prefer it when its 20c & Ferrari weather, come back soon

500km today, a lot of motorway miles, as i had a tight schedule, which always makes me feel like I'm not doing justice to the car. Last stint on the way home, sun was just starting to set and the country roads empty. The natural habitat of a 308.. It was a lot of fun .

Come on Barry spill the beans, you're in practice for FLED6 now aren't you?

How's the 308 performing, still as tight as ever?

FLED 6 has come to an end, and 13620 performed faultlessly.

Consumption of oil was a little high - but nothing that couldn't be remedied with a top up every now and then. Nearly 2,500 km door to door, most of it in 3rd and 4th gear ( ), and any remaining fears I had of classic car ownership have been firmly put to rest.

The GT4 is cooling down in the garage, engine ticking and kitchen door open to allow the wonderful aroma to fill the house . Tomorrow some TLC is required. Full detail will be carried out, as is thoroughly deserved.

Barry good to hear that you are now secure in the knowledge that it will perform on demand.
Oil use being "high" is not unusual for an overhead cam car.
By way of example if I may..how many pints did it consume and how many pints did you consume?

I trust that you shall be posting some photos soon?

The former is approx 2.5 litres over 2,500 km.

The latter is classified (even from me )

Glad your baby made it all the way around Scotland & back home flawlessly, I was really impressed by her performance on the road to Mallaig!

Good to see you again Barry!

Barry 2,5L for 2500kms is not bad really.
Given that you were in 3rd /4th for a lot of the time and the revs would have been high it is not something to fret about I don't think.

I would propose that your 360 under similar driving conditions would have consumed 1L of oil

Happy to report that the black 308gt4 looks even better in the flesh as witnessed on the road from close quarters in Onno's 365BB during FLED 6. It is in the driving when this Ferrari delights even more. I asked Barry if I could join him for the drive to Fort William as I had never been in a 308gt4 before. Barry most generously threw me the keys and settled into the passenger seat.

This is a gorgeous example in lovely condition with smart black leather seats offset by tan carpeting and period radio. Driving position better than expected and I quickly made my 6 4" frame comfortable. As we pull off, I hear that familiar induction roar of the carb V8. At higher speed the V8 settles into a distant and creamy smooth roar. Smoother and quieter than the Michalone. A glance at the speedo shows we are moving faster than it feels. Lovely feeling of sitting forward close to the front wheels, much like a group C prototype I imagine. Tactile smooth gearbox, gearchanges a joy once Barry has shown me how to master the change from 4th to 5th. Familiar gearbox whine as per Michalone adds to the music. Handling sublime, simply goes where you point her, no need to lift for most corners. Wind noise less than Michalone and ergonomics superb with all controls bunched around the instument nacelle.

In summary, to drive this Bertone beauty is to understand the brilliance of the design. A sportscar that makes a great gt, being smoother and quieter than the GTB while retaining lots of driving thrills and go. Thanks Barry for your kindness in letting me loose in your black Bertone beauty.

Far better than I could ever describe David (as usual)

Thank you for your kind words. It was a pleasure to take to the passenger seat (and I dont say that lightly).

Great review, Vitalone. I've been in love with them since driving one 5 years ago. They are quite different to drive from other Ferraris due to the forward seating position. But that. makes them great, very go-kart like, and for the time very fast but still practical. Lovely cars.
