Damaged 355 Crakshaft

I thought the 355 owners might be interested to see these pics of a damaged crankshaft.

When I visited the shop where my 275 is being tinkered, there was a 355 with engine out. The mechanic said that the crankshaft was damaged and was about to be replaced with a new one. The 6th pic shows the scarred portion. Cost of the new one ??? ..."only" 1,500,000 JYen !!! Ouch ! w/ smiles Jimmy

That's like 18k USD! Why not just buy a new engine?
