Default removing 308 gtsi gearbox

I need to replace the bulk ring between 5th and 4th gears of my 81 gtsi. Can anyone tell me the best way to do this and how to remove the box from the engine. Is there any special tools I need. Any tips at all would be greatly appreciated as the cars been off the road just to long now and I would realy like to sort it.

Big job.

You need a ring nut tool to get the lower drop gear off and then another one to get the ring nuts off the trans shafts (2 right hand, 2 left hand thread)

Have fun
