Hello Ferrari Friends: Has anyone had any experience using the Petronix Ignitor II "points to electronic iginition conversion units" that are made for the 308 Marelli distributors? Any feedback would be great! |

I have that unit on my 1978 308 GTS. Came to me that way. I plan to change to change the pick ups under the distributor as when it was installed the mechanic put both under the rearmost distributor as it was easier. Makes sense to me to have one on each bank as intended. Probably not a huge deal.Other than that, it's been a trouble free ignition. I'm sure that there are better performance units that use a computer and different advance curves but this seems ok as I'm not really pushing mine for racing etc. Bill

Hi Bill: Thanks for the fast reply! So you have the Twin Distributor setup? And, there are two Ignitor II units in the rear Marelli distributor? I had no idea that there was enough room for two units in one distributor or if that was even possible? And, yes your right there are many better Elec. Ignition Systems out there, but I too am not racing my gt4 and I'm looking just to improve the iginition system without changing the stock appearance. Thanks again for your reply. Yes- Twin Distributor. Supposed to be one pickup under each cap but for now both under rear cap. They (pertronics) have a pretty helpful web site that I found by doing search for pertronics ignition systems. Bill

I did the swap to electronic on my '79 about 5 or 6 years back. I used two of the Crane Cams Fireball 3000 ignitions. Did it myself, was very careful and the car fired right up when I was through. Took it to a shop to have the carbs sync'ed and haven't had any issues since. I had a thread about the swap, I'll see if I can't find it. Capt.
