During the last couple of weeks and months I tried to get around my “mental block” of owning a 2nd Ferrari, most preferable a medium level-mileage F50. Partially succeeding in that personal quest and after rechecking the market for F50’s again, I found out that the one in London has been sold (well dummie, its your own fault!). A further one in Switzerland had low mileage but was in a rather bad condition, another one had many miles on it in respect to the asking price, a german F50 owner finally decided not to sell his car and a UK seller was asking to much (imo) for his F50. After talking several times with Boxer (thanks for your endless patience on the subject), I came to the conclusion to stop and wait. In the meantime, I have been checking a Daytona for a friend of mine, a yellow one at Niki Hasler Ferrari concessionaire in Basel, Switzerland. This car had a “officially” very high sticker price and my friend soon abandoned the idea of buying it. Nevertheless, I kept researching the car and it became more and more interesting to me personally. The car was totally restored around 10-12 years ago, including work of Edi Wyss engineering , Piet Roelofs from the Netherlands for the engine besides others. The car, chassis 15671, was originally ordered to Garage Francorchamp in Belgium and came to Switzerland about 18 years ago. The original colour was blue metalizato, now yellow, interior black. Recently, the car was totally serviced and runs and drives wonderfully. He comes with a 2008 Ferrari Classiche certification (not a necessity for me but nice to have), a second steering wheel (wooden Nardi), all books and tool roll and the correct and original Becker Mexico radio. 9’ Comodoras are on the rear axle. Finally the price was not cheap but around 15% below initial offering. Interesting was also an additional deal in combination to the basic purchase of the Daytona: I received the Option to sell my Scuderia until year end 2009 for a price 5% below the sticker price and a additional option to sell back the Daytona (if it should not be to my likings) until end of 2011 for 80% of the buying price. With other words I received 2 Put Options above the main deal, which, in case the right F50 would show up, enables me to sell the Scuderia for a small depreciation in value within the next 7 month and without the hassle to find a buyer. Longer term I assume that the Daytona and F50 prices should proof more stable than that of the Scuderia. With all emotions respected, depreciation of money-values in cars needs to be fighted whenever possible. Interestingly almost exactly 10 years ago, I bought my first Ferrari, a 550 Maranello also at Niki Haslers dealership. At that time he worked for his father and it was especially impressive to me that Niki Hasler personally took a whole day to drive with me all existent, present new available Ferraris (at that time the 355, the 550 and the 456 GT). Compared to other dealers, this impressed me very much. Niki’s prices are rather high comparable to other offers but actually he is willing to negotiate and one thing is sure, he is a total enthusiast and understands his business. Having owned and driven hard the “old Ferrari’s 250 PF’s and GTE, as well as the 330 GTC and lastly the 275 GTB short nose, Jimmy’s comparison of the Cheetah and Tiger to me is almost like finding the truth in character difference of the 275/365. My wife, which is rather low key on cars has started to drive the Daytona. Can you imagine ?! She likes it wonderfully and is totally in love with the car’s shape and colour ! I’m together with her since 23 years now, having owned many cars, besides that the Daytona is my (HER!) 10th Ferrari, but I have her never seen feeling for a car like for this Daytona. A new Ferrarista is born! I will add some pictures below. Hope you enjoy them. |

MY GOODNESS, 212Export !!! I am shocked. I am so thrilled as I was reading your confession. Everything sounded so good. I would love to meet your loving, understanding wife who can appreciate the beauty of Daytona and enjoy driving it !!! My goodness, you are so blessed. I wasn't sure why you posted a pic of that yellow Daytona earlier, but now everything is clear. You caught me in total surprise. I am so HAPPY for you two. I have no doubt at all that you'll enjoy your Daytona, and that feeling would grow everytime you drive her. I don't think I need to lecture on how wonderful Daytona is, your knowledge and experiences far surpass mine. Can't wait to see PICSSSS and reports. Does this mean that you'll be taking this Daytona to FLED II ? I was so thrilled to know that Onno bought his 330 GTC, and now,...your acquisition of that beautiful Daytona...what a great story. Thank you for sharing. w/ big smiles Jimmy

Dear Jimmy Thank you so much for your kind words. Yes sometimes its surprising what venues we go thru. Still, I plan to participate in fled 2 with the Scuderia. The curves and the gear change on the passes is the Scuderia's great competence and field. Believe me ! (Besides I drove the Daytona so far only for 500 km's, it works and drives perfect, but I would not excuse myself to have probable hidden things/issues to show up on the Daytona while guiding my respected guests thru Switzerland. I want to learn it more firstly!) | |

Thanx a bunch, 212Export. I am so excited as if I bought this car myself !!! This is a FINE, FINE Daytona. All those things you mentioned regarding the dealer is so important. You are indeed a wise, seasoned Ferrari buyer who knows what he is doing unlike me. (Can you believe that I bought my Daytona thru internet without seeing the car in person, no PPI, just e-mails with Jon Guikas in Marseilles and trusting his words ???). Pretty silly way of buying Ferraris, isn't it ? Gosh, that is a beautiful Daytona, 212Export. No need to worry about "boring" anyone. You have to post more pics and share your experiences with all of us here. Congratulations. Now, I feel like searching for yet another car ??? Just joking. (I hope). w/ smiles Jimmy

Confession is correct Jimmy. But clearly and straightforward to conquer any missunderstandings: The F50 stays my No. 1 dreamcar in the modern Ferrari car arena. But in hindsight I believe that everything just went right as it is now. Would I have the Scuderia AND the F50 right now, I would be afraid to not use the Scuderia often anymore, whereas a classic like the Daytona does not conquer the Scuderia's nor the F50's driving feeling and competence in a similar way. Its different and rightly so. So if the right F50 turns up.....! The 2car garage, Scuderia and Daytona is wonderful, the F50 and Daytona garage would be likely perfect (for a 2 car garage). Over time, that may change...but that's what live and experiences are all about. Lets go and see..

| You are very sensible. I would do the same if it were me. But I can only imagine what it would be like to go thru uphill winding roads with the glorious, chain driven Daytona's V12 symphony entertaining your senses. Congratulations again. w/ smiles Jimmy

Dear 212 Export, Congratulations, it is truly spectacular. Are you sure it isn't a brand new replica ;-) It looks as though it has just left the factory. The colour is magnificent, I am not a big fan of yellow usually, but it really suits the car and shows off its beautiful lines. I wish both you and your wife many pleasureable KM's in it. Well done Archie |

Congrat. on the Daytona. One of my favorites. Can't tell you how many times can kick myself in the early days when that car was still in production and I passed on two opportunities. When I was just out of medical school had opportunity to purchase both new Dino and or (Daytona < 6mo old for 3,000 dollars more) and I bought the Dino 246. Second pass was Yates yellow Daytona approx. yr later. Live and learn, it is gorgeous. Good luck with it. |

| IMO, yellow is very befitting to the character of Daytona, which is a a brutal, macho car. It exudes motion is stasis. As per comment on your F50 as your #1 modern, dream car, I have no doubt it is. As for myself, if I were to select my choices, it would be either F40 or 288GTO. Unfortunately, I do not have enough knowledge to make any intelligent comments. Just my gut reaction. w/ smiles Jimmy PS. Just to "BORE" you all, I'll post few pics of my Daytona #13745 as a comparison to prove how much more nice 212Export's Daytona is.
