If money was no problem and you had the opportunity to own one historical racing car (Pre 1970), which would it be and why? It can be from any racing series - Grand Prix, le Mans, Mille Miglia, Targa Florio, rallying...etc and from any manufactuer - Ferrari, Maserati, Alfa Romeo, Mercedes, Lotus ...etc.

Alfa Romero something, from the 30's-40's but ultimately the very best, similar vintage, Bugatti would be AWSOME. would bring out the Barney Google in me and have a car that brings all the smell, taste, heat, and cold while having a car I could truly break down without going to advanced tech school. rik Guide to the Galaxy: Don't Panic Rik -- LAH ! I can't decide myself, but I think it would have to be something from the 50's or 60's. I just love the curves of the cars from this era, most of the cars were beautiful as well as being untamed beasts. Modern cars just don't compare in the beauty stakes. I also think that the drivers until the late 60's were the last of a generation of very brave men, not like the over pampered racing drivers that followed them. I'm no expert on the model names, production runs or who won what in them, but with my limited knowledge the 3 contenders for me are the Mercedes that Sterling Moss won the Mille Miglia in 1957? and did the 1000 miles in approx 10 hrs. I've always loved the name of the Maserati Birdcage, I looked on Wiki earlier and found out there were a few different models, so I couldn't tell you which one. The final car in my list of contenders is a Ferrari 250 LM, I've always loved these far more than the 250 GTO. Archie |
