Harrah's hot rod daytona: S/n 14169 is for sale in ferrari market letter. The asking price is @420k usd. I would appreciate the group's opinion on the value of that daytona given it is considerably higher than what daytona coupes are trading for currently. Thank you for your comments, alex365 |

Attached are some photos and commentary on the Harrah's car. I believe it was written up for the last auction that too place a few years ago via Goodings. I also have some recent photos of the car. It has a unique copper/orange paint which is gorgeous. I believe that the Hot Rod name comes from the factory flares, much wider wheels and tires, and P6 cams. Thanks, Alex365 |

Beautiful and interesting Daytona but essentially just a Euro spec car with wider wheels delivered in the US. Given that all Daytonas are more than 25 years old, today it is easy to buy a Euro spec Daytona (plenty are available) and ship it to the US so this does not justify much of a premium. Given the interesting history, it might be worth a bit more than a normal Daytona but not a huge premium IMHO.

Thank you for the comment Boxer. Those are very good points that I hadn't thought about. The only real differentiator is that it is a Bill Harrah car. And in a few more years people won't even know who he was. Thanks, Alex365 |

Wow. Pretty darn good (and mean) looking machine! I'm starting to slowly fall in love with Daytonas... It's one of the very few '60ies designs that look good with the '70ies wide wheels. I love the /C versions. Onno |

Based on the photos alone, personal impression is not in my taste. Looks a bit like American muscle cars (as in Camaro ?). As aformentioned by other posts, some changes in appearance does not justify the asking price. It just seems half way between a normal and competition. w/ smiles Jimmy

Daytona's to me are one of the Ferrari greats. The Daytona has possibly all the qualities that epitomise the old school, hardcore Ferraris and it remains fast and exciting today. This car seems to be a great amongst the greats: GTB/4A spec (I understand only a few Daytona's were thus supplied, weighing less with a more potent motor) plus competizione features. A competizione stradale if you like. One of one. Plus unique colour-gorgeous. Supplied bespoke by the factory for an elite client. Worth double a Daytona? Well I think this Daytona would be more desirable than a Daytona spider. And for less money. So yes, easily worth double a Daytona. It just needs the wheels to be in gold and then this Daytona could join my every growing list of ultimate cars ever built. |

+1, however, the price is on provenance more than excellent specs over typical Daytona. Not sure unless you want to do a 'Harrah's' [sic] that collecting one-offs makes much sense. | Besides this particular Harrah's Daytona, Onno,...at first I believe I had similar feelings as you regarding liking a Daytona. (It was not a love at first site, nevertheless, appealing). However, after some time and bonding w/ this car, it became apparent that I like Daytona. It is the last in line of the classic front V12 Colombo engine, backed by racing provenance too to back up the quality. It does grow on you. w/ smiles Jimmy

| Agree, not sure the "Harrah" name really should generate much of a premium. Most people will not have any idea who he was. For a former owner to really have an impact on a cars value long term, the general public should be able to easily identify that person 50 after they have passed on. As hypothetical examples a JFK 250 California Spider, a John D Rockefeller 212 Export, or Bill Gates' Porsche 959 (assume it would come with a software upgrade), would all be worth a tidy premium but Sandy Weill's 456 GTA would not.
