Default 500 Mondial offered at RM's auction

A rare Ferrari type is offered at RM's auction in Maranello: a 500 Mondial series 1. The Mondials are very rare and seldom to be offered at auctions. A quick check of chassis 0414 tells me that it seems to be from the Fritz Kroyman stable. As seen on another Thread, the liquidators seem to go forward fast......

Yes, I just found this on Anamera. http://www.anamera.com/en/detail/car/41552/index.html

Beautiful car, one of the more desirable at the auction IMHO.

BTW, 212, it looks like I might attend the auction after all. It should be quite an exciting event.

Dear Onno

Thanks for the nice picture. I adore the shape of these Mondials (like the 340/375MM's) unfortunately only a 4 cylinder car.
I would not be surprised if additional cars from the Kroyman collection would roll in at the RM's auction.
And yes, you are right, they already have a great array of cars on offer...the market is "offered" as they say in the pit in Chicago...means more and more cars coming on the table !
Especially interesting is the Schermenhorst collection with the early coachbuild Ferraris 166/195/212 by Farina, Ghia and Vignale, very rare and beautiful.
Should we meet in Maranello, especially on the 15th. it seems they will run the auction cars on the Fiorano track to show their up-to-date mechanicals. (I was theres in '07 when they did so too...impressive)

Sorry...that should read "Schermenhorn" not Schermenhorst.

We must make an effort to meet up - that would be great. If they are running the cars on the 15th, I will try and convince my friends to go and have a look (I'm with 12 other Ferraris during the week and we try to do things together). But I'm sure they'll be interested.

The Schermerhorn collection used to be stored 1 floor above my 550 Maranello, so occassionally I've been in a position to view it. It was quite a remarkable collection - to collect all the carrozzeria builders from the early Ferrari years, I don't know of any other collection that had that aim. I saw a 250LM up there once as well, quite a different car but very impressive.

The other car I'm really smitten by in this auction is the Maserati 250S - what a brilliant machine! http://www.anamera.com/en/detail/car/41554/index.html

Yes, the Maserati is wonderful as well. Onno, do you know why this Schermenhorn collection is coming up to sale ? Another financial disaster story ?

No, I haven't heard the reason. I know people that would know the story but I feel it's a bit uncouth to ask them. It could be a similar story to Harry van de Moesdijk, who last year sold his collection (ironically most of it to Kroymans). He sold it because he was just getting fed up with all the attention the cars were putting on him and his private life. But I do believe that Mr. Schemerhorn was not that much in the limelight so it might be for other reasons.

A correction from my side: 0414 MD Mondial 500 is NOT from the Kroyman's stable. It seems that no Kroymans car will be offered as they are ( as previously thought) held privately and have nothing to do with the bancrupty thing. It seems that the Kroymans will keep them.
