Default $10mil 250 California Spider Pictures

Here are a few pictures of the $10 mil 250 California Spider sold at the RM Maranello Auction to the British DJ. It was on display at the FOC UK Concours.

Paint was not in great condition (paging Al).

Here are the rest of the pictures from the Concours:

well, of course it looks gorgeous and everything, but I'd never pay that much for that car

even if I had infinite money, I wouldn't

It is a beautiful piece of machinery. Truly a vehicle with a soul.

Based on my source, lot #328 Chassis #2377GT went for 7,040,000 Euro. Beauty indeed, but somehow something doesn't feel natural when you enter this kind of realm and there are people willing to pay that kind of money. Jimmy

I agree, Billie Piper is very easy on the eye as for the motor, as much as I really, really, really like it (I mean really like it!) - it is too much money for sure.

I would, but only if I had a special relationship with this particular chassis number. And I would have had to have ridiculous money, and already 50 cars in the garage.

To put things in context: in the same auction, for the same money, you could have bought all these:

250 California Spyder (LWB one)
250 Lusso Competizione
275 GTS Spyder
512M Le Mans car
F40
365 GT4/BB
330 America
246 GTS

Not a bad collection, really! And 3 of those were more than 1 million Euros, 2 of those even above 2 million... Just goes to show how much more expensive the SWB Spyder was. It's funny how people just don't seem to care about a million more or less once it breaks through the 2 million Euro barrier...

As Chris Evans now owns it, a better reg would be

NOB 1
DIK 1
COK 1
WNK 1
TWT 1
D1CK H

PEN 15
PEN 1 S

Just my opinion

LOL

Archie, you rock!

Onno, why would you ever own 50 cars? I much prefer having 2 or 3 cars at the maximum and enjoying them more often. Then if you get bored, change them for another 3.

Archie, behave yourself!

Stile, if I was Ralph Lauren or Nick Mason, my garage would be the same. Why would I own 50 cars? Because I could! Well, 50 is maybe a bit much but I would certainly own more than 10. I'm just a humble engineer and I'm planning to own 5 by 2009 or 2010 already.

I wouldn't do what you suggest because I like the idea of forming a bond with a car over time. If you do the buy/sell/swapping thing, you will always regret selling this or that car.

And why would you need so many, you may ask? Because they are all so different! And I would like to do trials and events with them. Different even, you need a different car.

So I would love to own a 1929 Bugatti T35B, a Escort MkI rally car, a Maserati 250F, a 1961 Ferrari SWB California Spyder (with a different number plate than Archie suggests....), a 1930 Bentley Blower, a 1984 Ferrari 288 GTO, a 2008 430 Scuderia, a 1970 Ferrari 512M, a 1929 Alfa Romeo 8C-2300, a 2000 Ferrari 550 Maranello (hey, got that one already!), a 1965 Lotus Elan and so on and so forth.

Don't get me wrong - I'm very happy with my BMW for everyday use and my 550 Maranello as my special car. But now I'm looking at buying a TVR Griffith, because I would like a nice quick brutish roadster. But I still don't have anything classic that you can do a nice rallye in. So a Lotus Elan is on the cards. And I would still like an old-style Ferrari for the styling, the engine, and the driving experience, so a Boxer is still in the pipeline as well. See, that already makes 5! I don't need them and I'm very happy without them. But if you have the storage space and the money, why not?

I completely agree with you Onno, if you can afford to own many cars and get pleasure from driving them, why not?

Seems you know your classics! A collection with an expert view and good taste. It does not come standard with those who have all the money for 50 cars or more...

To be fair to Chris Evans, I must say that he was very good at the weekend and great that he brought his cars along. He had 3 Ferraris there and, I'm told, has 6 in total. I may not be his greatest fan, but he has pretty good taste in cars!

I agree Jonathan, just a bit of childish fun on my part.

Archie you forgot G1 NGE and C11 NTO as possibles although they would make the car look newer than it is and so would not be allowed under DVLA rules .

It is crazed and spidered in a few places.

Really not very good when you look at it from a few feet away.
