I recently found the following Daytona. The owner stated that it is completely unrestored, low mileage, but well and regularily maintained. The dash covering (mousehair?) seems to have badly discolored with age. Any thoughts or comments ? IMO (and this is just IMO) we restored a previously un-messed with '73 Daytona and the panel fit and paint finish from the factory were lousy - from the pics this car looks very good, what did it appear like in the metal to you Boxer? Best wishes, Al. Last edited by alsaautomotive; 04-12-2007 at 02:23 PM. |

From the photo's it looks in VGC. No doubt an expert giving it a thorough going over would find some signs of ageing which might help you negotiate the price downward. Not wishing to knock the car, I have to say that the colour wouldn't be my first choice, but I could live with it to own such a classic car. After reading some of your posts regarding your recent purchases and restorations you probably know what you are looking for more than most and realise that once you start fixing one thing, you find another fault you hadn't planned for...and so on. Are you planning to add to your collection? Good luck. Archie |

wood steering wheel is from an early ferrari, not daytona. possible repaint since rain gutters around engine bay are painted black. early cars had body colored rain gutters. inquire seller re paint. good luck, ed |

| Well....I sent the vendor a note asking for more information on a few items plus the chassis number. It has now been four days and no response. So on to the next Daytona.

Have you tried Nick Cartwright or his son Ben ? Tel no 0044 1629 56999 www.nickcartwright.com He's a thoroughly nice chap, and might be able to point you in the right direction or find one for you. I've been speaking to them for about 3 years now and would happily recommend them as the friendliest Ferrari specialists in the UK They also do a fantastic job on the cars they sell, many people have commented to me how good the cars are when they leave Nick's workshop.Good luck. More than happy for you to mention my name (Ian) from leicester, with the Red 328. Ben spent 7 weeks fully detailing it before he would let it leave the showroom. The longest 7 weeks of my life.

Good decision, that car is not an original car. A car that early, as someone early pointed out, would have the rain wells painted body color, not black. That didn't happen until the fall of 1971. Plexiglass cars stopped well before that (Spring 1971). Early Euro cars did come with wood wheels, but it should be a non-black line Momo wheel. This looks like it has an aftermarket black line Nardi wheel. Lots of small things (like the radiator cap (a 308 one is in there), to big things (what's up with the black glossy paint on the air cleaner?) in the engine compartment. The car may be a fine car, but if the owner/seller is advertising it as an original car, I would walk. Steve |

Much appreciate all the help and advice. The owner never did reply to any of my questions or provide the chassis number. In fact all discussion stopped right after I asked him for the chassis number so that I could check it with Ferrari Chassiche.
