As always many thanks for inputs !
That's bad luck. Are you sure its the Alternator?
Sounds more like coils, if so Ferrari UK have a modern version of them, it's just that they are red now, but you can always paint them with cad. effect paint to make them look original.

No, it was a broken spring within the distributor. A $20 spring. Already done and runs well again. Now, we will today go on an adjust the carbs, so that the car will run less "fat".

Nigel, finally also "D" has been "adjusted" for great use again. First oil was changed (engine and gearbox) all filters replaced, clutch adjusted (to give it a slight leeway again at the beginning of the push), brake fluids changed (lots of air in it before) and the carbs have been adjusted. Car is pulling like a train, no smoke at all when suddenly pushing down the pedal to the metal on all variations of rpm's when doing that, and as a result the car gets much less exhaust dirt to its backside. Adjustment was done solely on the mixture/jet screw and not on the pumps. My mechanic told me that when "D" was restored in the '90 by well known company Roelofs (Holland) and Edi Wyss engineering, they adjusted the pumps with some underneath construction/plates to prevent the effect you very well mentioned regarding those pumps.

Car runs smoothly and even being in Scotland I would start now to push the engine above 4'000 rpm's (which I have never done on the whole Fled)

Great to know it is sorted out and there is no more black smoke. I look forward to hearing D pulling more than 4000 rpm in the future, I'll have more difficulty in keeping up with you! Nigel
