I've never hung out in Japan. Think you can show me Tokyo the way I showed Archie Singapore? Capt. Pete '79 308 GTS, '82 Jeep CJ7 Jamboree "Time is what prevents everything from happening all at once." | |

| I knew what you meant. It is getting hard to tell the players without a program. You'd like me better than Archie anyway. In fact, I think Archie likes me better than Archie.

Lately, I have been making comments of my Daytona relative to the 275, under the #08191 thread. Thought I would add a comment or two here without comparing the two. Took the Daytona for a short run today to keep her in shape and to fill gas. Weather has been lots of rain lately and today was an exception with modestly fair weather. Few days have passed since the last run. As you unlock the key manually and open the left door, the protocol is to allow your right foot in first as you hold the wood steering wheel with your right hand (both actions in synchrony as you bend your torso to flop your bun into the ergonomically contoured seat). Forgot to mention that I have my left hand against the door sill as I am doing all of the above, all in a flow. Once you are cuddled there, I check to make sure the shift is in neutral, then turn the key to on, fuel pump wakes up and then I pump gas few times, ...after about 15 seconds I step on clutch and fire the engine. Almost always, she wakes up the first time around and if you are not easy (careful) with that right foot, the rpm needle would shoot right up to the 4000 marking. The first few minutes, idling is still rough, takes a while to warm up, especially Daytona. However, you can "feel" the immense power underneath the hood from the thundering resonance of motor and massive reverberations transmitted to your body. At a standstill as you are warm up and give some gas with your right foot, your body can feel the motor coming alive and shaking the whole unit. At this time, you check all the gauges and after few minutes of warm up, I gently tap on the water temp gauge to see if it comes alive. Check the amp meter to make sure she is charging as I step on the gas. Oil temp needle takes a long time to come alive in Daytona, and even after a good run, the oil temp seems to stay lower than other F cars. (Not sure why). After at least five minutes or so of the rituals, she is ready to move out.. Shift in first and steady as she goes. Waiting for a traffic light to turn green, you step a little on the gas as you make a turn, you hear this screaching sound of the rear tire gripping the tarmac showing off how immense the torque she's got. The first twenty minuutes or so, I shift from first straight to third, bypassing the "hard" second gear, due to the still, cold engine. This is resolved after about ten minutes of run. By then, the dormant oil temp. gauge wakes up and move right gradually. Motor sound becomes much more smooth and synchronized and turns into a "whoooshing" sound from the initial grumpy growling. Finally, she is awakened properly and ready to go north of 3000rpm where she comes alive. That does not mean you need to be in high speed all the time to enjoy. Occasionally, in order to just enjoy the glorious engine sound, I wouls shift the gear in second with the rpm needle at 5000 and speed at 60 kph or so, I can get a glimpse of the thundering, high pitched engine/ exhaust music. TBC... w/ smiles Jimmy |

| Thanx, Boxer. She is, I mean Your Daytona is eagerly waiting for you to know her better. Daytona is truly like a wild stallion (with her immense power and torque) to be tamed. Her V12 motor must be one of the finest. w/ smiles Jimmy

| Thank You, Rolf. I forgot to mention, as you sit in the cockpit, the actual smell of leather, mixed odor of oil mixtures, and the distinct flavor that reminds you how old the car is (40 years +/-. Needless to say, I luv the smell. w/ smiles Jimmy

The weather was great (sunny and 11 Celcius, spring is in the air), Daytona was running pretty and was happy to be taken out for a good run. Only one problem. Driving Daytona in traffic (stop and go and signals all along the way) is not exactly a soothing experience. It is a physical endeavor, takes a toll, beating, whatever you want to call it. My left foot sole, especially, is not happy right after this kind of driving. Limping like a ski athlete after a tumble, limbing like a disabled. Takes around 30 minutes for the numbness to fade away. But somehow, it is still a gratifying experience. Today's report. w/ smiles Jimmy
