Default My Daytona Derek Bell's car ?

While skipping thru Hillary Raab's "encyclopedia of Ferrari chassis numbers" in a Maranello library on thursday I fell over the chassis number of my Daytona (15671). There its indicated that my car was originally delivered to Garage Francorchamp in Belgium for Mr. Derek Bell, racing driver. My Ferrari Classiche book, which came with the car indicated Garage Francorchamp as well but of course not the first owner.
When I googled about Derek Bell I fell over the following report

http://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/6389996#

as you can read in the report Derek Bell was mentioned about his personal experience with his own private held Daytona, which he said was almost as fast as the Competition Daytona he drove in 1972 in Le Mans.

It would be a very nice history addition to my Daytona if it would proove that in fact Derek Bell was the very first owner of the car. It would be most natural to contact him personally to confirm (or deconfirm).

My question: Does anybody of you know how I possibly could contact Derek Bell ? (please, do not mention "facebook" I will never use it)

Many thanks for any suggestion or idea !

Dear Boxer, just received confirmation from Marcel Massini that Derek Bell was the first owner of my Daytona. He confirmed it by a copy of internal Ferrari documents. Interestingly Marcel owns these documents for every Ferrari from 1947 to 1976, street cars and racing cars...what a unbelieveable data source. Many thanks again for your kind help !

Sorry, it is not much but it was the only link I could come up with. You might also be able to make contact via the Goodwood Racing Club.

I was consulting my magazines about Daytonas when I found an article with a little interview of Derek Bell .(in MotorSport Mag. January 2005)

Going back to his hotel with his personal Daytona at 265 Km/h after racing the Daytona Gr4 !!

Many, many thanks for the report. It will be a nice addition to the already very thick bundle of documents saved on my 15671.
Yes the "competition Daytona must be another class above the road car, especially noise wise. But I'm very happy with my road Daytona. Having driven it about 8'000km since late Mai '09, the horse has been ridden as it meant to be. After the initial problem with the 2 electric gaz pump in June, no single thing broke on those long, long trips. Thank you again.

8000 kms ! that's the Gran Turismo ! (Berlinetta)

I 'd like to drive the Ferrari like Enzo intended but in France there is so many radars & cops ... over 180 km/h on the highway and you go back home by feet !! They keep your licence until jugment.(they can even confiscate the car !)

Daytona are the best for travelling . (no place for luggage in the Boxer,I have removed the spare wheel for that ...)

I am impressed and jealous. My Daytona only has a less than impressive 300 km on it this year as we have spent most of the time getting it sorted. Good news is it should be finally finished in two weeks.

ohh I know to well the situation in france. In early 2005 I lost my drivers license in France for 1 month when being "radared" by a mobile french police group with 200 km/h. (its the only time I lost my licence in 30 years driving, and only for the territory of france). The police mens were very polite and absolute fans of Ferraris (one had a Ferrari watch on his wrist and the othe police officer was writing down my coordinates with a Ferrari pen (!)). They excused themselves for the need to write me a ticket. Well my wife then had to change seats and drive my Challenge stradale home.

Great to hear that your Daytona will be sorted out in one of these days. You know, I'm really checking the forum lately for your comment on the Daytona driving experience...so far unsuccessfull but now I know why.

On a positive note, as the Daytona has been laid up, I have spent a lot more time in the F40 and it is driving beautifully. Really enjoyed it on FLED 2.5.

They have no mercy !

Fortunately I drove Ferraris a lot in the nineties before ALL those radars.

The positive note in your story is that you were not alone in your car (+ being foreigner) and had your wife with you ,if not ,BIG PROBLEMS ...!

Default Derek Bell

Met Derek Bell last year at an Open House for a local Porsche tuner shop. He was very friendly and down to earth! He even signed my friend's chest!
