Default The "right" Jazz sound to drive any classic Ferrari thru the night

Being very much "squizzed" work wise in business I lately find myself often in the Daytona driving thru the night to get some kind of "relief". Lately I learned to know an old masterpiece played on the trumpet by Chet Baker (but originally written by Elvis Costello). I found this musical piece of extraordinary beauty and wanted to share it for other "sleepness" Ferraristi's

It is.

Very nice. I tend to listen to Pink Floyd when driving to relax.

Pink Floyd, that's a sign of age. Prog rock's a bit before my time. I prefer ambient/progressive electronic music like Massive Attack and Faithless for relaxing. However, I have never switched on the radio or CD player in either Ferrari I've owned yet

Pink Floyd is a sign of taste, not age.

Only discovered it later in life myself (except for "Another brick in the wall", no way avoiding that in 1980).

As for some classic jazz in a classic Ferrari - some Kenny Burrell would do very nicely, thank you!

212Export - I love your thoughts and music suggestion here... thanks!

A live version of Comfortably Numb, has to be one of the best mind clearing driving sounds yet written.

Singing whilst driving is underestimated. It is like dual therapy (seriously, please try it!).

I agree Pink Floyd is good driving music. I often listen to "Have a Cigarr".

If I were to listen to any other music but the sound of the V8, I certainly would consider jazz for night driving. But there's so much to choose from. Here's a couple of haphazard picks that spring to mind:

First off, some real classics for you: pity Ferrari's don't have 78 rpm players on board, otherwise it would be Duke Ellington all the way home

* with Adelaide Hall: "Creole Love Call" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EQCgHiFkZv8

* with Ivie Anderson: "I got it bad & that ain't good)" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YKm87GvG48U

* with Jimmy Hamilton: "Perdido" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vIRzg...eature=related

* "Take the A-train" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bHRbE...eature=related (instrumental version)

Then, from a totally different era (my favourite, the '80s), one can't but love Donald Fagen (ex Steely Dan) who brought us the brilliant Nightfly album, which included a.o.:

* "The Nightfly" (live): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hjEIoJHYWzg

* "IGY": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SqUU-GCuppo

And something really great from Cuba, the Buena Vista Social Club, as recorded live in Amsterdam:

* "Chan Chan" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6JEdf...x=0&playnext=1

A horse is a horse, of course, of course, and no one can talk to a horse of course. That is, of course, unless the horse is the famous Mister F.

Dave Brubeck is good, too.

Oh yes, absolutelly. I adore Dave Brubeck...especially those songs with the late Paul Desmond (Kyoto Song, Blue dove etc.) My personal Dave Brubeck favorite disk is the live album "We're all together for the first time again". O guess it was recorded in 1973 or 1975 with Jack Dawson, Paul Desmond, Gerry Mulligan and Dave. Recording was in the Daytona and Boxer time. Definitively something to consider for all Daytona and Boxer drivers !

And I will! Although you won't be able to hear all that much in a 365 Boxer when travelling.

But I am resolutely planning to order some 8-track tapes on eBay with period music. I have not tried the tape mechanism yet, but my original Voxson seems to work fine and it would be really nice to play some Led Zep when the restoration is finished. And I'll put Dave Brubeck on the list too!
