Looks good!

Any idea what the switch blank on the left side of the steering wheel was intended for - it's the 4th blank from the right.

Mine switches on and off the exhaust but I was wondering what original option that was intended for.

Doug- Rear fog lights for European cars. There is a blank switch on most of the late model cars. Should be one on your 612, also. There is on my 575M.

The switch setup on your car for the exhaust valves was designed by the Service Manager of Ferrari of Seattle. It is a manual switch, not electronic like Capristo's setup. Saw a bunch of cars at RTC in Redmond this weekend with the same setup.

FOS charges around $1k to install this setup.

Show off

Eventually I am going to install the Capristo - if one ever pops up let me know.

Terry

Time to give Russell some credit too for installing Capristo.

Maybe Stefvan will chime in and I know Mark has already commented - but now I am ready.

Mark I will switch the radar with the extra switch - I hate searching for it under the dash.

The dealer and I were talking and it seems Capristo is the way to go on the 16M for may reasons.

Anyone know where to begin on a Capristo system and what is required to get the best all around long term results.

Supposedly this little addition makes the 16M run head to head with the 458

The Full Capristo setup is not necessary. If you want full gains, you need Capristo flex pipes, and RSC, Fabspeed X-pipe, or TT Competizione exhaust, AND an Evoms tune. Full Capristo setup only gains about 20 hp without the tune. I don't like the sound of the full Capristo Scud system, neither does Rad (F430GT) on Fchat.

YouTube - Broadcast Yourself.

With just sport cats, or straight pipes and a tune you will be above a 458 at the wheels. Rad said the tune works well with both the sport cats and straight pipes, takes about 100 miles to adjust, he switches between them.

Scuderia does not have pre-cats in the headers, so aftermarket headers are not necessary, but the added protection of the Capristo header blankets sold me, plus the weight savings.

A Scuderia without valves is extemely loud, and mine has stock cats. Don't know if i could handle adding straight pipes, unless i modified my RSC exhaust and welded in valves, or went back to the stock muffler.

Doug- I have always been fond of the Kreissieg sound. A bit higher pitched than Capristo and very high build quality like Capristo.

Yes, but heavy, and it cannot handle any track stresses.

Doug,

If you go for the Capristo exhaust system, make sure you get the latest cats. Some Scud's/16M had CEL issues with the previous Capristo 200cpi cats. There new cats have an excellent coating and despite the larger cells, there should be no CEL anymore. BTW, Capristo warantees no CEL + 3yr warranty.

Ideal would be the entire exhaust system including the headers. The design of the Capristo headers does improve the exhaust flow and considerably reduces hot points. The stock headers will eventually crack (my friend changed them already 3 times on his 16M but he's tracking his car a lot). Changing the headers will also change the exhaust sound. As Mark said, the heat shield covers on the headers and cats will reduce considerably the heat in the engine bay and certainly more for the 16M. I'm monitoring now since 1 year the engine bay temp of my F430 and the maximum value I got is 88C. This is a huge difference compared to the usual 130C-150C.

The Capristo bracket system is specifically designed for their exhaust system. This is a real must have and will save you lots of troubles especially if your car is a keeper.

The Capristo remote control unit that operates the exhaust valves is a simple 2 button system :
1: the ECU controls the exhaust valves
2: the exhaust valves are forced open

Installation of the control unit is very easy and straight forward.

Russ did this upgrade (except the headers) and may chime in to comment on the sound of the Capristo exhaust system.

I must have some Scud dynos with the entire Capristo system. If you're interested, I can post them this evening.

The beauty of the Capristo system, aside from the quality, the superb mounting system (that removes stress), the remote valve control and the superb sound is that you can actually live with it on a daily basis - there is no drone at any revs. Having had a Tubi inconel exhaust that sounded great but droned horrendously at 3500 revs, I would challenge anyone to say they don't mind having to avoid certain revs, it's just not possible and the driving experience is spoilt. The Capristo reduces both weight and heat in the engine bay and gives a pleasing increase in power - this is to me a perfect upgrade, improvements in all areas with 'NO' downside.
Interestingly in his latest posts F430GT mentions drone with his setup and is considering a Capristo muffler.

Thanks!

Heat is the serious issue and the rest is a big bonus.

The dealer and I discussed what has been mirrored here - in the long run I want the best for my 16M ... no regrets.

Under normal driving the stock system may be just fine but just fine and a 16M don't go together.

Any suggestions where to buy the set up?

Stef feel free to post the numbers

Look up Capristo Exhaust, you will see Taurino Racing searching through Google.
CAPRISTO® Exhaust | The World Leader in Performance Exhaust Technologies

The full system is around 14k, but if you tell them you are an Fchat member, they will give you a discount, and or throw in free shipping. They did for me on just the headers I ordered from them. Andrea is the guy to talk to, but sometimes he isn't there, so Katy Craan will check with him, she is his secretary / administrative assistant.

I would suggest having Evoms do a tune also, which would run close to 3k. Should be someone in your area that can flash your ECU's, but if not, you can Fed Ex Evoms your ECU's and they will have them back to you in a couple of days tops.

A big reason you don't have any drone, is that you still have valves. I would like to hear the Capristo setup, with the valves open at a constant 2800-3000 rpm.
