You may recall sometime ago I had mentioned how one of my friends had wiped his 348 during a Ferrari Day at Kyalami Race Track. well last year in March if I recall correctly he purchased a 360 spider with some 16 000 km and in absolutely mint condition. The following happened on January 8th on his way to visit his parents for lunch. The intersection |

Sorry to hear. The aspects of the accident are difficult to figure based on pics etc. Guess this'll play in the courts. Don't see the 360, so guessing it was loaded and gone. is everyone ok? Most importantly he is ok with just a few bruises from the airbag. The VW at the last minute turned in front of him and he slammed into it without even having had the time to apply brakes. Worthwhile mentioning that he drives in the South African Formula Vee series and he is an above average driver having completed 2 racing seasons successfully and getting ready for his 3rd/4th |

| Good to hear on degree of injury, physical. But the car: wow. The windshield looks like head or impact damage: was he using a seat belt? Bags and all seems to be the life saver. Also, from my limited perspective, I cannot put my hands about the righty-to-righty drive vs my old fashioned Port-to-port passage. I've always wondered how I would adapt to that environment. In my experience, he will need a good representative to get him totally out of the equation. Only being rear ended seems to automatically fall into a less than 'some' involvement percentage. Hi Peter, Firstly it's good to hear that your mate wasn't seriously injured. He must have been highly pissed off at the driver of the Polo I'm sure! A mate of mine sent me pictures of the 360 shortly after the accident happened and another mate of mine actually saw the car on the flatbed heading in the direction of Bassonia. How come he didn't get it towed to Ivo in Longmeadow to have a look at? Has the insurance written the car off now? Sorry to hear about the 348 as well |

Amazing how quickly these pictures spread. I am not sure where the car was towed to initially it is now with Viglietti and they have assessed it as uneconomical to repair. The chassis has kinked in the centre and the doors will not open as they jammed against the B post. Equally the floor has split open where it joins the wheel arch. One thing about F cars is that they are solid in their structural integrity as has been proven by him twice now. |

With that kind of damage I can see why Viglietti / Inusrance would write the car off. F cars do seem to prove themselves in a lot of accidents where the drivers have managed to walk away from the reckage of which one wouldn't think so when seeing what the cars look like after an accident. Typical entry speed is roughly 150Km/h. He touched the astro turf with his left rear tyre which started the spin into the barriers. Happened roughly 4 years ago. Insurance did finally pay out the claim September of last year.

DAMN.....all this talk about crashing Ferrari's is freaking me out....some rich guy who wastes a 458 on a highway (motorway for all you backwards, ummm right hand people hehehe) doesn't bother me, they still make those cars and most of all, he can afford a car like that, then money is not a problem. But someone who ass plants a 348 TS in a wall bothers me. I look at it like....holy shit, that could be me.... ![]() My insurance doesn't cover me in the parking lot of a race track let alone on the track. They say, if some guy who gets excited after seeing a race tries to show off in the parking lot and crashes into cars and mine is one of them, I am not insured. It seems that accidents in race track parking lots are common here in Canada... ![]() ~ Mario 1990 348 TS (87284) “I build cars for young men that only old men can afford” - Enzo Ferrari Last edited by Magnum6464; 01-18-2012 at 05:22 PM. |

Wow! Glad your friend is okay. Two accidents - he should buy a lottery ticket! Can you find out the serial numbers of these two cars? I'd like to notate these accidents in my database in case they come up for sale in the future. I need an Aventador! |

Over the years of going to Ferrari Day, I've seen a handful of guys going off and if one doesn't see them, you hear about it on the P.A system. The ones I've seen are mainly at Turn 2 after the pit straight. Last year a Scuderia went off and into the barrier but the damage looked to be repairable. A Challenge Stradale a couple of years back also went off at Turn 2 and having the barrier stop him. The worst I've seen was a 360 Challenge during a race involved in an accident on Turn 4. I have pics of both 360's on my other PC. Can't believe the insurance took nearly 4 years to pay him out! That's crazy!
