Good lord! I didn't notice that there's another layer underneath those pads! Sure thing, I'll have them removed by the panel shop. Better give them a ring right away since the car is already at the shop this morning.

360Trev, great tip but are we sure that this layer is only for noise isolation? I thought that this layer was there to avoid also humidity to come in the passenger compartment.

You can clearly see this is the case in the picture above of the Scud which had the rollcage fitted, look closely where the floor pan is and it is indeed 'bare', just painted silver.

Thanks Trev Just wanted to make sure that this isolation is used only for NHV as you said. That will be a next job to do but I'll have to put back the carpets after removing the 2 layers of isolation (otherwise, the wifey would not get it if I leave everything bare )

My Scud project car is back at the paintshop yesterday with all carpets removed. but before we get there, here's another money shot at the Scud carbon brakes. Tight fit in the Scud wheels. Don't think they will fit in Scud-style wheels. Looks quite nice to have silver calipers behind gold wheels. Didn't expect it to be but I'm happy.

Took my mate's advice and commited to a full carbon Scuderia rear bumper with diffuser alongside his order for a full carbon LP640 kit. They get these kits moulded and finished in China. Fitment is perfect, I'm suprised, but details are lacking in the aspect of grille design. But the weight is really astonishingly light as compared to the factory Scuderia rear bumper and diffuser that I bought months ago. So it's now balanced on all four corners, carbon front and rear bumper and side skirts. But now I've a collection of bumpers, kinda like my collection of loafers and sneakers. LOL....not happy the missus is. Here's a sneak shot at some of the alcantara panels installed. |

The bare floors, all cleaned and ready for paint. I decided to leave the last layer of soundproofing since my active bass unit will be sitting on it. Might help reduce rattling noises when the car is in motion. More updated pictures soon. The paintworks will be complete by end of the day. Got an email from Mike Ferran of Ferran Automotive this morning that the rollbar is on route via FedEx. Scud engine bay glass struts on route via UPS since yesterday so I should get it tomorrow at the latest. Car is looking good. I'll get some matching mesh for the centre hole on the scud diffuser so it will not reveal my Scud F1 transmission....oh wait....did I mention I got that swapped too? LOL...I'm hopeless. |

Personally I would definitely remove that gunk, it saved over 6kg's on my car (!). Its much heavier than the stuff that just lifts off under the carpets (the carpets are only 1.3 kg's each!). Furthermore its easy to dent and scratch (being tires and glue mixed together) and doesn't paint well, the paint will easily come off it. If you want sound deadening there are much better products that are lightweight that can be fitted and aren't all that expensive, such as Dyna-mat. You'll also not ever get a perfect fit if you decide to fit the Scuderia metal floor mats later and junk the carpets (recommended once you've painted the chassis silver metallic with lacquer on the top!). Resulting in perfect factory Scud finish. Whatever you decide good luck!

Trev, I can't help but to think that you are somewhat either a genuine tech expert or a fortune teller. Thats exactly what happened. Initially I started off deciding not to remove the final soundproofing so that the active bass unit will have something cushy to sit on instead of the bare floor. The paintshop rang me on Friday evening when they found the silver paint "slipping" off specifically the soundproofing areas. So, yes, the final outcome was a complete removal of soundproofing. They used a blow torch. The thought of that left my innards twisted in knots. I didn't dare to look, they promised they wouldn't burn my ECUs. Saturday arvo they rang me to inform me that the car is back at the workshop, all painted, all stripped of soundproofing. They did mention hearing some additional sound effects in the cabin during the drive back and it was the crackle and pop from the exhaust. LOL. I'll only know on Monday. We''ll see. Thanks for the tip(s). Much appreciated. Goodnight. |

Any idea how much weight you've saved so far? Have you had the car corner weighted yet? On the CF door handles, I cannot get them to make the handles yet until I sell all the remaining driveshaft covers. ... Lets hope I can shift the last few so I can get the handle order completed.

How hard would it be to fit those shaft covers? Do I nerd to host the car up? Running out of things to do soon and I wanna fill the void with small things other than the centerlock wheels that's bugging me bigtime.
