I doubt if you will find good carbon fiber clearcoat primer and finish coat at the home improvement store or even at the average auto paint store... for carbon fiber I use a 3 part coatings for primer and finish coats... I have almost $500 in products ( in quart sizes ) which is the smallest it comes in. Last edited by fromage; 01-22-2012 at 05:53 PM. | |

Thanks for the advice. My mate runs a paint shop and he has done many carbon projects. I won't be doing it myself per say. That's too risky for clumsy ol me.

I really shouldn't be posting and instead should be applying elbow grease fitting all the parts in my parts bin. Just wanted to share a quick update. Parts that need a new clear coat are all at the paint shop. Just pulled the trigger in a complete new set of carbon drip panels. It's a five piece set so yes that covers all corners. Then out of thd blue I get this offer from a mate who lives in Germany. A brand spanking new Scuderia rear bumper and diffuser. What can I say right. Yes of course. March is going to be a busy month. I'm still drawing out the plans for the new audio hook up. Looks like the new speakers and tweets will go into a new custom housing mounted against the firewall in between the two seats. Then the subwoofer will be tucked under my seat. |

Ok. I'm just being plain silly. Scuderia bumper arrived. Scud carbon ceramic brakes arrived. Extinguisher rejected by customs. Re attempting delivery via alternative courier. Carbon drip panels on route. Stef's shift light on route. I just bought Scud aluminum floor plates. I'll be ripping out all remaining panels covered in tan leather to be rewrapped in alcantara. I need suggestions. Seats are technical fabric, black with white stitches. Should I go all conservative black alcantara with white stitches? Or rosso alcantara with white stitches? Decisions decisions... |

Silly? Comon, you're making the most amazing car of the world buddy Oh, sorry to hear that your fire extinguisher was rejected by the customs! Despite it was empty? If I remember well, you made a deal to have it empty isn't it? Or maybe you have specific norms there? Hmmm, difficult decision But I would be tempted by the rosso + white stitches for a change.

Thanks buddy. It has been a crazy week at work and I've only managed to drop the car off at the workshop to get the parts fitted. The audio guys are looking into the new speaker setup whilst the boys rip out all panels that are wrapped in tan leather. Soon those will be replaced with alcantara. Still not convinced of rosso alcantara...Mine's rosso scud on the exterior. Wouldn't that be overkill? Too much red? Yes, I made a deal to have the extinguisher emptied. Still it didn't clear customs. At least we know the boys at the customs are not sleeping on the job. Well, we'll try other couriers and see if it works. Worst case scenario, I'll just get the base plate and purchase an extinguisher from a local supplier. Just not FIA approved...thats the only problem. |

Thanks for your update buddy Wow, that will be a huge transformation now, I mean, all the parts you brought together during these last months will now be installed. That must be really the most exciting phase of your project. You will not recognize your can when you’ll get her back! Me, I’m excited to see your pictures!I’m aware that over there the custom rules are very strict and there is no kidding there. I hope you’ll succeed to get it. Maybe you can ship it to the very nearby other country and just pick it up there. I’ve been buying quite a lot “illegal” stuff there. Commonly, people would go for back alcantara. Me,in opposition, I would go rosso but that’s a very personal choice. The next car, a Granturismo S, will be rosso for sure. And the wifey loves rosso which counts also. So, it’s difficult to advice you but maybe if your supplier has rolls of rosso alcantara tissue and can just put some of it over your seats to give you an idea? Good luck my friend |

Ok now that I have read the thread a few times - let me say again it is one of the best threads here. Surprised no one has mentioned CF door handles - any reason? I just bought a CF gas cover from Eric16M but have never seen any close up pictures - hint |

Addict- I love the Ferrar technical fabric, especially in red, but also in black. Would not change that for alcantara.

| Yep. Thats why I'm only changing the panels not the seats. I'm leaving it as technical fabric in black. The rest of the car will be covered in black alcantara with white stitiching to match the Scuderia steering wheel and seats.

| I didn't like the idea of CF door handles coz they kinda stick out like Dopey's ears. But now that I have the CF fuel cap, I might just have to get the handles...to match? I'm think of wrapping my painted-over-carbon fibre Scuderia side skirts in...listen to this...carbon fibre sticker film. Yes. Fake carbon sticker over a real carbon panel which was painted over due to poor weave pattern. I saw it on a 458 which used a combination of 3M textured carbon film and a glossy carbon film. The effect was fantastic. This will go well with the fuel cap. But then again, gold wheels...hmmm....trouble there.

You're very right buddy, the 3M Di-Noc is an excellent solution to improve the look and protect the side skirts at the same time It's not cheap but well cheaper than changing the entire body parts. Here is an interesting blog about Di-Noc : 3M Carbon Fiber DI-NOC Now Available In 8 Different Colors | Carbon Fiber Film |

Surprise. Door bell rings. UPS man at the door with an unexpected parcel. Opened it and guess what? My extinguisher! The whole unit with floor mounts and brackets. Good lord! It made it through customs! Well done! Pix to follow. One thing I don't understand is what the brackets holding the bottle is a bolt and nut type. What happened to quick access? I need a spanner to unbolt the brace whilst my car is burning down to a crisp? |

just one question. Did you get the chance to weight the car and see how much fat it has now lost? |
