Well, I see your window looks good. But, I do not see where that pentograph is broken.

Rik- Those three sheet metal screws were not there originally.

Well done, Akaiakuma ! You are a challenger.

Kinda like the way you customized your car there, like the wheels. I am sure other 456 owners would like to hear and see the changes you made.

w/ smiles

Hi Akai

So the excess movement is in the pressed fitted aluminium spline.

To confirm repair, you have drilled and threaded some machine screws in place to stop any extra movement?

Thanks I now understand the problem.........

You must remove many screws.
There are also a number of adjustment points.
It exists not only doors and windows, also on the side of the vehicle body.

Default Bump

Called FerrParts, Brian Keagan, and we went over this thread vs the drawings such as Taz posted: Interesting that this is exactly as I found inside my door when I took off the panel and exactly the problem I'm facing as now that spline 'gear' part is broken.

Akai's solution is a good one but as he states "emergency" and not seemingly permanent. Without the original 'pentograph' [lack of a better term] you would need to create a new spline and/or find a way to keep them together better. It is a lousy design because the spline is almost cheap pot metal. No wonder it was not a permanent fix and I have the Ferrari $8,000 'fix' documented.

The other part is the three welds you might see in that broken apart arm showing the lousy pot metal spline. When those welds go, and they will [even with Ferrari's replacement ones which are identical to the OEM out the factory door] need re-welding.

Now, Brian has researched the OEM recall bulletins and part numbers and on the latter, there seems to be numerous replacement part numbers: Almost three so far. GOOD and BAD news. Good in that there may be many parts out there to fix this. Bad in that which actual one, becuase as eluded to earlier by Taz's drawings: The PENTOGRAPH does not seem to exist in that drawing. Why? perhaps becuase the 'fix' was not really a replacement of the OEM out the factory part, but in fact an entirely new [say pentograph] part not shown in any drawings normally found at RICAMBI, EXOTICPART, EUROSPARES, or FERRPARTS.

blaah....will keep informed.

Default Ferrari Technical Information

Received these releases from Brian at Ferrparts [my appologies to our sponsor in the same area -- I just happen to know Brian personally]

Below in order are the 456 GT Window 'fixes' and/or release documents concerning such.

I'll see what I can do. Brian mentioned he had an entire kit, including the video, and that can be digitized or put on youtube at the least.

I'll let you know.

Meanwhile, here is a almost perfect working window--the rearmost alignment looks a bit off:

Well, just sprang for a LeftHand used window mechanism to include motor. $225 which I consider a bargain: Thanks Brian Keagan at Ferrparts. Exoticsupply didn't have it save for some new ones at > $900, which using the above methods and replacing the al pin for stainless steel should make this quite a bargain.

I will be taking out the old glass and window mechanism sometime next week.

Has anyone done this?
IF so THEN
removing the glass is it straight fwd?
any other hints on replacing the mechanism, like in down position or whatver.
I cannot truly find the adjustment points on the diagrams. any help there would be appreciated.

BTW: Sold the 456 luggage set to a member here. I believe he got a great deal. So removing ad and no more takers.
