Deke- If you look at this post for changing the oil on a Maranello, it is generally similar for the 456. Do not put in 4 qts and start the engine. You have a dry sump system and the tank needs to be filled before starting. Like any car, get the oil warm before draining. Use new copper washers on the drain plugs, and dampen the two oil filter gaskets with oil. All the pros strongly suggest you use a torque wrench when you install the oil filters. The torque spec for the 575M will work fine for a 456. 575M Technical Thread Taz Terry Phillips Present: 575M 135171 Past: Dino 246 GT 02984, 365 GTB/4 14009, 308 GTS 25125 Every day I look around, and if nobody is shooting at me, it is a pretty good day. |

Thanks Taz your info helped a bunch, your a bevy of information, I was looking in my manual for changing plugs I found torque info but nothing on removing the spark plug wires from the plug I see there is a holder near the plug any special tools or is it pretty much straight forward any input would be appreciated. Once again thanks Taz.

Deke- My car has coil on plug (COP) ignition so is different from the 456s and 550s. Hopefully one of those cars' owners can chime in on how to remove the boots without damaging them. There are special tools for removing boots, but not sure if one is required here or not. John Cribb has recently replaced his 550's coils and high tension leads ignition with COP so he should be able to tell you how to pull the boot.
