Default 575 Zagato for sale at Symbolic Motors

I have no connection to car or dealer but I thought this was a pretty nice looking customization.... not feeling the green leather though. The listing is from an e-mail I got.

Make Ferrari
Model 575 Maranello F1
Type Grand Tourisimo Zagato "GTZ"
VIN ZFFBT55J000124936
Production No 52403
Eng. No 79716
Zagato No. 02
Milage 2,826 Miles / 4,548 kilometers

Model history: Even though Zagato's bodies were ideally suited for
competition cars, surprisingly few Ferraris have been clothed by the
Milanese coach-builder over the years. Most of these were one-off
specials and show cars. One notable and particularly beautiful
exception was the batch of five 250 GT based Zagato Coupesbuilt between
1956 and 1959. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the model, a
prominent Japanese collector commissioned Zagato to create a modern day
version.

Work on what was internally known as 'Project Zero' commenced in 2005.
As the base for the project the Ferrari 575M 'Maranello' was chosen.
Ferrari was consulted early on in the development and they granted
Zagato permission to place the familiar Ferrari badges and logos on the
car. One condition was that Zagato Ferrari would not be unveiled at the
2006 Geneva Motor Show, where Ferrari were due to launch the 575M's
replacement; the 599 GTB Fiorano. As per the agreement the 'Ferrari 575
GTZ' was revealed two months later at Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este.

At Zagato the donor 575M Maranello had been completely stripped down
and fitted with a brand new body and lavish leather interior.
Constructed completely from aluminium the new coach-work featured many
cues inspired by the first of the five 250 GT Zagatos. Among them was,
of course, Zagato's trademark 'double bubble' roof but also the
prominent front and rear fenders and the big grille. More modern
touches included the front and tail lights, which were integrated in
the fenders. Like the original 250 GT Zagato, the car sported a
two-tone finish, although with different colours.

At the Villa d'Este launch it was immediately clear that the car would
not be a one-off and that another five examples were due to be built.
These were first offered to the owners of the original cars but not all
of them were willing to put down the rumoured 1.5 million Euros
required. Eventually customers were found for the remaining 575 GTZs.
Each was built to custom order and featured individual exterior and
interior cues.

The 575 GTZ was among the first of a new generation of custom Ferraris,
which has led to an official factory program of which Zagato is now one
of the partners. The car's dramatic stylingwas used for several
successive Zagato models. Although, for obvious reasons, the
V12-engined machine lacked the racing record of the original, he
project was certainly a fittingtribute to the 250 GT Zagato.

Chassis 134936 Zagato Commission No. 02 (July 2006) This particular
example is the second of the six completed and has covered only 2,800
miles / 4,500 kilometers from new.

While each example was subtly different, only the first and second
examples commissioned by Mr. Hayashi incorporated Zagato's fully
encompassing styling efforts. Chassis 02 was also the sole example
completed in all black with a deeply striking and contrasting dark
green interior.

All services are completely current and up to date and the car can be
road-registered for use here in the States as well as export and
road-registration in all EEC and most other nations.

This is the sole example to be offered ever for private purchase and no
other examples will ever be built again.

I wouldn't term it a customization. My accurately it should probably be called a bespoke commissioning. In my opinion not all the details are successful but it is really quite interesting overall.

In a way it is surprising that such a unique car is being offered openly.

The green interior concept may not be my first choice if I had been commissioning the project but would have been a reasonable choice for the 1950s. Look at 0488 to see such a combination (375 Pf Spyder for Prince Leopold).

Re: Green interior

It might look fantastic in person. Photos rarely do justice - depending on who/how they were taken.

My Daytona had a dark green interior and it looked fine and photographed lighter than it was in real life.

The Japanese collector who originally commissioned the first two of six apparently has already shed both of them now.

The cars look much better with the 19" wheels. They fill out those huge wheelwells better.

That history sounds strange to me since the original 575M popped out in October/November 2003. Makes me wonder if they did not zero the odometer when they rebuilt the car since the car would have been nearly two years old when the project began. It carries a Japan VIN. Will have to do some more digging and see if I can find some more details. Forza ran a story on them.

The bodywork reminds me of the Thunderbird that was brought back. Strange. But the green leather looks pretty neat. I think it would suit a car in silver better though.

No debate about individual tastes....but I never like the styling of this car. IMO They try to partially apply those 60's shapes into modern designs. Its just not the same anymore. Just my 2c

Found out some more details from Bill Noonan at Symbolic and this car was apparently sent to Zagato for rebody only partially completed. It carries a Japanese VIN. The first car, SN 127394, appears to have been a completed 2002 car with an American VIN. Symbolic also sold that car.

I agree this car is not as attractive as a regular 575 imo.
People buy these cars for their rarity so that makes it interesting.
The latest Zagato Aston Martin sure came out well. That one looks way better than the original in my book.

Ice you are 100% correct!

Very limited production - looks and sounds like one of the finest machines ever built.

500k and sold out before breakfast.

Hi Guys,

Only a second to pipe in. We started this program for a client in Japan before Ferrari put a stop to it all when they were ready to debut the new 559. Car no. 01 was the test mule and based on a USA model used 575 that we sold new out of our old store in the Bay Area. It was converted from a normal model and the first of the limited series. The next example was a pure or clean build car from moment one and built as a secret with no photos or details released. It was plucked directly from the assembly line and built from scratch in its entirety by Zagato in-house.

02 was as far as I know the only one of the six done this way. It was also road registered and sold new as a GTZ and had full factory warranty as such. We bought this one back from our client and I intend to bring it to Cavallino in a few weeks and all are welcome to come look and touch. Those who have seen 01 or the others will see the build details and construction differences immediately.

Cheers,

Bill Noon

Bill- Of the six GTZs, this one appears to be the pick of the litter. Would love to have it as one of the few coach-built cars available at a reasonable cost. Reasonable for some folks, but not for me, unfortunately. Depreciation proof. The only change I would make would be to put on a set of the 19" modulars, but save the 18" wheels for complete history. Those are really big wheel wells and need all the help they can get.

Not a bad thought Terry.... you get a round... Nice to see you here too.

Are you going to be at the Cavallino Classics?

Bill- Unfortunately not. A long ways from Albuquerque. Too bad I do not live closer or we could bolt on my NF2s and see how those look. They are essentially copies of the Enzo wheels with five bolt mounting. The 355/25 19s would really fill out the rear wheel wells. Those tires are nearly 14" wide.

The Zagato arrived in Palm Beach for the Cavallino Classics. I arrive tomorrow but I am both happy and a bit sad as she is now sold.

Hoping some of you from the group can stop by and say hi. I will be making all the usual rounds and shows while there with the car.

Ciao,

Bill,

Will the Zagato be staying in the US or departed for another continent?
