Default 0w-40 Oil in the 456, 550 or 575?

Anyone using it, and if so, what's your cold start oil pressure?

High mileage, low compression, and missing on a few cylinders.....just like my cars.

456 [Mondial T, also] Yes: I use 5-40 Redline [and when out, Royal Purple 5-40 as detergent replicates, poorly, Redlines]. Garage is heated, all year, so I have less an issue, can even use 2nd gear on drive for an almost cold morning in NorCal.

My pressure is low, though, but pressure registers, and is not what I usually look for, it's temp, which is almost at a couple notches...then again, my engine is not kept in a cold garage.

When I kept it outside [kid's junk took half the garage and Mondial T the other half] took awhile for temps to get up to speed, of about 15-20 min cold mornings....kept revs down to below 3k until warmed. When all temps are what they should be, all register in the 12o'clock position, save the Water, which is always LOW save ambient HOT day [>100F] and a hot run where I 'may' quickly drop to a sub-50ish MPH....then the water registers near redline.

IF you are stating the pressure is not registering, then thinking bad sensor.

SO: My question to you: Are you getting ANY pressure or is it just showing late?

Brian or Taz will set me straight on above

John- By the time the 575M came out, 0W-40 was on the recommended oil viscosity list.

Rik, sorry, I didn't explain myself or give much background about my question.

The 550 (and I assume the 575) has very high oil pressure at cold startup - it's one of the highest, if not the highest, I've seen on a "production" car. My 550 with 5w-40 Redline will spike to 140psi or so on startup, before settling down to 100-125 or so at cold idle, but then even when I'm being very careful to get the car moving without revving, it still goes well over 125 until the oil is well warmed up. I'm looking for ways to reduce it, and a 0w-40 oil is one of the possible solutions I'm looking at.

So I'm just curious what others are seeing with their cold start oil pressures if they're running 0w-40?

Taz thanks, I had read where it was an approved grade of oil to use, but I just haven't read/heard much real world feedback about it. How high does your cold start oil pressure go? IIRC, you're running 5w-40 Valvoline, right?

Stupid me:

I use 5-40 DUUHHH. before it were 50 for latter number. Zero went out as not easy to find and as Taz stated, they did some changes.

Guess I'm no help here.

John, Rik- I use Valvoline full synthetic 5W-40. Will check and see how high my oil pressure is when cold. My car is in an unheated garage, but surrounded by heated rooms on two sides and the ceiling, so never gets below freezing. Supposed to be 15 F here on Monday and it is in the 30s right now. Will be taking the car out today in advance of a weekend winter front and snow storm.

Valvoline does not make a 0W-40 Synpower oil, or any 0W grade for their full synthetic.

It is 70 or so here. I just went to lunch on my motorcycle in a T shirt.

You should find a nicer climate to live in.

Today; 0700 2f, 1100 12f, 1400 21f, 1600 17f humidity 9%.
Keep house at 68 runs 16% to 21% humitity inside house and garage. All ways run 0-40 in winter, 10-40 summer.
Up on start but comes down and stabilizes right away with 0-40 or 0-30.

Default 98 PSI at 3000 rpm Cold

Brian- I like four seasons, all relatively mild, and you could not pay me enough to ever live in California again. I lived there 9 years, and that was in the good old days. Things have changed. Plus trout do not like places where it is 70 degs in December.

John- I checked my oil pressure when the car was pretty much full cold today, and the maximum she hit at 3000 rpm was 98 psi.
