Default 550/575 M Unvalved Capristos on E-Bay

$1700 is a really good price on Capristos, even unvalved. Will not fit the 456/M.

eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices

Hi Terry,
What will they do for the sound when on a 550?

Many thanks!

Jeroen- I do not actually know. In general, the Capristo, Kreissieg and Novitec systems are the high end exhausts for Maranellos. Here are youtube.com videos of a 575M and a Superamerica with Capristos and they sound pretty good. The SA, at least, has straight center pipes. Probably the 575M, too, because it has the late 575M script on the rear.

With the center straight pipes they sound great with lots of blurps and crackels when letting off the gas or when downshifting. I have the valves closed only when I am with the Mrs. in the car at night when, even to me, it is a little too much in the dead of night in a quiet neighborhood.

The valves and the remote are nice buy the price point here is pretty tempting when the savings is 2k.

The stock setup was may too quiet for any performance car especially a 12 cylinder ferrari.

Mr. Taz will tell you that you may want to remove the center resonator and go with straight pipes.

I have a lift and changed out the back boxes myself. Not a huge job.

Unless you want to spend the extra $$ to get the valved and the remote, this sounds like a great oportunity

Good luck

(That SA on you tube looks alot the one in my avatar, but where is the really big box?)

Jeroen, I'll record a sound clip after I install them; I just won the auction for the listed price - no one else submitted a bid.

I already have Mille Miglia mufflers and a Larini X pipe on my 550, but I really like the sound of Capristos and wanted to try a set with the Larini.

Wifey has been after me for hints on what I wanted for Christmas, so it's a fait accompli now

John- Way to go. That is a $4000 exhaust system for less than half price. You will love the sound.

Thanks Taz, I just hope they're the "real" Capristos. Recall there was a rash of counterfeit Chinese Capristo's last year for the V8 crowd (along with the recent flap about the Chinese headers for the 355's).

I didn't hear about any counterfeits for the 550/575 guys, but as a precaution, I've contacted Andrea @ Capristo to see if he can verify them for me. The seller seems to be a stand up guy, so I hope there are no problems, but these days you can't be too careful, especially when something appears to be a "deal".

John- There is probably not a big enough V12 market to bother with counterfeiting. CEC had an overstock of Novitec Supersports when I bought mine new, and they were only $2000 ($5K list) and I sold them for $1200, so $1700 is a reasonable price for used $4K mufflers. When I bought the Novitecs, I would have preferred Capristo or Kreissieg, but could not pass up the bargain.

Just received confirmation back from Capristo that they're the genuine articles. Excellent tech support from these guys!

Absolutely. As I still have a set of Bradan straight pipes, plus the Larini X-pipe, plus the original resonators, I may give all three combos a try.

We have a 3/4 mile long tunnel under the Houston Ship Channel which ought to be an appropriate venue for sounding out these exhausts.

Jeroen I nearly forgot about it too, but I checked eBay and saw that no one had bid, so I submitted mine about 5 minutes before it ended, and was very surprised I won the auction. I'm looking forward to getting home and getting these installed, if wifey will let me have them before Christmas

Thanks Jimmy; there are a number of younger families with kids on the street leading to our home, and they enjoy watching the car coming and going, and some of the youngest boys will even "windmill" their arms to encourage me to "Light 'em up!" I usually try to sneak in/out quietly, keeping it in 2nd gear and going less than 20mph, but when I had the straight pipes on it for awhile, it was impossible to keep it quiet. It definitely sounded like a racecar with those.

Congrats! Those pipes were right here in my back yard and I missed 'em!

Jack, I sorta fell into the deal at the last minute. Surprising - I usually get burnt in these sorts of situations!

Jimmy, yes, wifey has been pretty patient with all my foibles and car habits. She's been a keeper for nearly 24 years - just wish I'd found her earlier, but better late than never. The first one gave me an ultimatum right after marriage that it was either her or my E type, so I sold the E type - big mistake.

Jeroen, no not yet. I've been meaning to pick up one of those POV cameras like the Hero2 so I can get some video/audio footage of my existing setup, then change over to the Capristos and do the same for a true A-B comparison.

I'm going to get a Hero on order now, so it'll be waiting for me when I return home in few weeks and I'll get this project launched.
