Hi guys!!! So I took the car out for a small ride around the block (almost literally as the weather hasn't been too good around here...) and 2 things drew my attention: 1st - there's a whine on start up that doesn't seem to come from the engine, instead it seems something like the assisted steering or something and it goes away after a while driving. 2nd - I don't have reverse lights. I checked the light on the left side (drivers side for non UK drivers) and it was ok, so I figured it could be the fuse? Other than that.... WHAT A SOUND!!!!! That bypass valve is worth every penny and those straight pipes add to the symphony! Still haven't add a proper "drive" in her yet.... Like a beautiful girlfriend that you haven't kissed..... |

Michael- There are all sorts of funny sounds on start. Maybe the vacuum accumulator, power steering, A/C evaporator, etc, but it all seems to quiet down except for the electric fans. Dave Helms and others recommend opening the hood/bonnet and familiarizing how the car sounds on start-up so you can tell if anything wayward starts arising.

Thanks Taz!! I do think it is the power steering as on my other car(s) when I lock the steering left or right it does a similar sound. I just thought weird that on the 550 it happened right away and with the wheels pointing straight ahead. Yeah, I need to familiarize with the sounds, it's a different beast from everything else I've owned and I am so unaware of everything yet... Again, many thanks Terry! Can't thank you enough! | |
