It is do to the air pressure in the tank not being vented off as fuel is added. Taz might be able to offer a solution.

During fueling, I lift the rubber boot on the nozzle just slightly so it doesn't make a tight seal around the filler pipe. That ususally does the trick.

Similar thing - I keep the nozzle about a third/half out to allow the air to escape. Find this happens most often on hot days and when the tank is almost empty. As it fills I push the nozzle back in fully to stop fuel blowing back.

Ferrari tech at dealer told me that, in my 550 and I assume same for 575, one needs to shut off the car, switch ignition to II position, then open gas filler gap so as to properly activate vapor extraction valve. Best Doug

Joe- No problem on filling my 575M. Put the nozzle in on full speed and go. Let me do some thinking on why this problem would occur.

Doug,

That's how Classic Coach showed me how to fill my 550's tank the day I picked it up.

This one slipped through the cracks. Let me see what I can find tomorrow. We have at least one 550 and one 575M with no problems and no requirement for any ignition fiddling. Do 550 gas lids open with ignition on of off? It is off for my 575.
